Metal Bands

Postby empyrean » Tue Apr 17, 2007 1:58 pm

I know we all listen to New Wave but i thought some of you might be listening to some Heavy Metal bands. So who's the best Metal band?

Metallica
Sepultura
Pantera
Deicide
Judas Priest
Korn

And whats the difference between Speed Metal and Death Metal? IMO, death Metal are those bands who you cant understand the singer. All growls and non sense blubberings. Speed Metal are those whose drumming runs for about 120bpm.

And where does Guns and Roses fit in? Would you consider 70's Rock Black sabbath and Nazareth and Scorpion and Pink Floyd Metal?

Stupid eh? [:D]

My favorite out of those woul dbe Metallica, well their 80s stuff. I also dig Sepultura with Max and Korn's 90s stuff out of those. Infact the only band I don;t liek is Deicide. i liek Iron Miaden and Slayer nad lal that kinda stuff, good to get the agresion out! I used to be really into thrash metal at one bit!I'd say all of those badns coudl mayeb be metal except for Pink Floyd who are prog.

Now that you've mentioned Trash Metal, what is their difference from the other Metal genre. I remember Slayer. Good one. How about Anthrax?

I consider these bands Pop Metal and i hate them

Guns and Roses
Aerosmith
Skid Row
Queensryche (i like Silent Lucidity)
Mr. Big
Bon Jovi (the worst)

They all have the same long, curly hairs!!!

Yeha not keen on 'hair rock' myself! Thrash metal is kinda punk mixed with heavy metal and palyed fast for the most part. The 'BIG FOUR' thrash bands were: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. I'd class Sepultura under thrash too. I think death metal is even faster than thrash but the singers grunt think Obituary. I think detah metal and thrash are similar though.

Metallica are probably the masters, although off the top of my head I,m partial to a Swedish death metal band called Nine. After 30+ years off collecting records I still can,t find the line between hard rock and metal.Artimus Pyledriver,Juggernaut,Alabama Thunder Pussy and Filthy Jim to name a few are also grrrreat, and then there,s stoner rock.

Yes I think it is a fine line. Like one of my favorite bands RUSH are a prog band but they were classed under heavy metal in the late '70s when my older brother was into them when I was little (I only recently discovered them)and I think they are heavy for a prog band whereas Pink Floyd are more chilled-out.But it's all good isn't it?!

I never thought of old Halen, Aerosmith or KISS as metal. They were always rock and roll.

I'll 'fess up:
I like hair bands: Ratt, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Kiss, Skid Row, etc. [:I]

But not Bon Jovi! Ewww.

I'm not so big on harder stuff. I can tolerate Metallica and Megadeth, but anything much harder than that is just pure (irritating!) noise to me.

Dude, hair metal is awesome! Then of course there are "real" metal bands like Metallica and Judas Priest and, not many others. Now that I think about it, metal is really hard to classify, I mean what are The Scorpions, or Aldo Nova considered? (both bands I like BTW.)

I can't say that I really care about Metallica or Iron Maiden, I guess I just never got around to listening to them.

Somebody said "Pop Metal" above which is pretty much what all hair metal was, I dunno, there's something about it that's so ludicrous that it's awesome.

The best metal bands IMO are:

Dokken, Whitesnake, and Spectre General (of course)

Then there are the ones I can't stand at all like:

Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi and Extreme

I don't really listen to metal (or any other music) made after the 80's but I have heard a song by Dragonforce, who are most definitly speed metal, and most definity awesome.

I'd don't think I've seen one real metal band named in this thread.
