Thanx Blir! I'm a huge Blade Runner fan and I love to get my hands on anything and everything Blade Runner. It's interesting to see just what a hard time Ridley Scott had to go through to making this masterpiece. I remember the critics hating this movie back then, there was even one who made fun of the tittle of the film saying that it sounds like an ice skating movie...I wonder what those critics are thinking now?

Thanks Blir -- Blade Runner is one of my favorite films -- saw it in the theatre in 1982 and bought The Criterion Collection laser disc back in 1995 and have watched it more than a dozen times.

Excellent documentary from the people that made the film (except for Harrison Ford)

Well this solves the big question if anybody had any more doubts...

Narrator: "So is Deckard really a replicant?"

Ridley Scott: "...that [Deckard's dream] was the only reference to this abstract image which was a unicorn. At the end of it, he comes out of this thought process and it never occurs again until the of the movie...and when they come out, there it is, he looks at the unicorn."

Yes, Blade Runner is indeed one of the best movies ever. Speaking of being "geeked" the cyberpunk genre as a whole is something that I'm hugely "geeked" on, and Blade Runner is basically the epitome of that IMO.

The video didn't work with my browser so I haven't watched it yet, but if it doesn't mention it (and it probably doesn't) I read last year that in September of this year, a crazy special deluxe edition is being released because of the films 25th anniversary. There will be 3 versions of the film included with insane special features, and yes folks, limited theatrical re-release. That likely means that I'm gonna have to drive a couple hundred miles to watch it in theaters, but you better believe I'm doing it.

While we're on the topic, has anyone actually read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" I read the book after seeing the film, and there are some obvious major differences. I have to say it's probably the only occurence I can think of where the movie was actually better than the book.

Even though the movie leaves a lot of what's in the book out, the stuff that's left out is what causes you to be drawn in to the movie. In the book everything is explained, plus there are all these pseudo-religious parallells that get in the way of the atmosphere and mental image that the movie creates.

I think the movie is so awesome because it limits what it tells the viewer. It basically just plops you right into this bizarre otherworld where the people in it live normally, but it's truly alien to the viewer which makes it captivating. Even the "is Deckard a replicant?" question is implied, it's never directly even asked in the movie. That's the other part of what makes it so awesome, the movie just ends with this surreal scene which is as confusing as it is awesome. Plus it has the best soundtrack ever.

So if any of you are truly Cyberpunk geeks, here's my opinion on a few things:

Best Cyberpunk movie: Blade Runner (duh)
Best Cyberpunk Videogame: Snatcher (Sega CD)
Best Cyberpunk Anime: Bubblegum Crisis (Heavily influenced by Blade Runner)
Best Cyberpunk CD: Billy Idol - Cyberpunk (or anything by Information Society)

Count me in as a Blade Runner fan. I've never seen the directors cut ,but after watching that documentary I'll have rent it. Here's one for geeky Blade Runner trivia. Which one of are beloved new wave artists wrote a song called "Attack ships on Fire"?

Don't know, but Revolting Cocks had two songs with partial names:
"Attack Ships ..." and "... On Fire", from the No Devotion 12" (both BSides).

There's an ambient duo called "the Fires of Ork" also, which must have taken their name from the movie, since they use Blade Runner samples in their tracks. "A deep thunder rolled upon the shore ... burning with the fires of Ork."



I'm a big fan of the theatrical version. You can be sure I'll be buying that DVD set the day it comes out.

"Attack Ships on Fire " is on the Revolting Cocks Big Sexy Land cd.

XXX you just got like 400 times cooler. I only know like 3 people in the universe who have ever heard of Snatcher. And yes, the band in Bubblgum Crisis is "Priss and The Replicants."

Not a prequel or sequel. Hes remaking his old movie. The one thats a prequel that he making is an Aliens prequel. Ridley's sort of losing it. If he isnt remaking his old movies, its usually some movie with Russell Crowe playing an anti-establishment character
