Can you swing by Pastosa's Grocer on New Utrecht on the way back and pick me up some curly sausages and their Locatelli cheese and maybe even some sopressata, ricotta salate, and lobster ravioli? If you have some extra hands, their private label crushed tomatoes would be great too - I'm putting on a sauce later this week and the stuff in Connecticut is heinous. We'll miss you while you're gone, but welcome back in advance.

So...are we all sitting by the window, staring longingly out to the street for the first hint of philly's pink cadillac to come around the corner?

Now that you mention it, you know what ticks me off? Fancy-ass food names. I mean seriously Blir tell me you made all that up please. I hate Panera for this reason, you go in there and the whole menu is in like Italian. I mean if it's a grilled cheese sandwich call it a grilled cheese sandwich. The crazy forein names are just there so they can pretend to have a reason to charge you $9.

Starbucks is exactly the same, I once made a cashier there laugh because I asked what one of the words means, and she told me and I said something like "So it's a Chinese name for an Italian drink with beans grown in Columbia?" or something like that.

I think in this case you're confusing fancy-ass for old-school good shit. These aren't some yuppy made-up food names - it's died-in-the-wool Eyetalian goodies that anyone around Bensonhurst or Bay Ridge would go "Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!"

I'm from Niagara Falls and those words don't mean "fancy-ass" to me. They mean "gems of culinary delight found only in the quaintest little mom & pop restaurant in Little Italy which uses original recipes from the old world." Prices are low because the food is so damned good they don't need to justify it with fru fru names and prices.

Hey, Blir, if we could keep our differences to ourselves, you could invite me over for some Eyetalian bliss and I could make some great apple streudel (my great grandmother's recipe) and chruscikis for dessert . . . Mmmmm.

I'll have the "man-o-cotti" please! will get you tossed out on your ass.

I love the real deal stuff. Its a real treat to find the old school stuff. A Brooklyn Italian Bakery is the real deal!
