A SYDNEY man has generated international anger by developing a video game based on last month's horrific Virginia Tech massacre and demanding $US3000 to remove it from the internet.

Ryan Lambourn, 21, from western Sydney, posted a game titled "V-Tech Rampage" on a gaming website three days ago.
In a taunt to contributors who have written messages of condemnation, Mr Lambourn offered to remove the game from the internet if he received $US2000 in donations to an internet PayPal account and to apologise if he received $US3000.

The game, which offers "three levels of stealth and murder" is based on the tragic events of the April 16 massacre in which crazed gunman Cho Seung-hui killed 32 students at the Virginia Tech University in the United States before taking his own life.

In simple animation, V-Tech Rampage features a gun-wielding character similar to Cho who shoot students around the campus.

Text which appears on the screen mentions an "Emily".

Emily Jane Hilscher, 18, was the subject of Cho's infatuation and was his first victim.

The game text reads: "Emily stayed overnight with her boyfriend, Karl, again last night. He'll be dropping her off at school as always." The game also makes reference to a violent play written by Cho, titled Richard McBeef, by berating players who fail to kill Emily with "Are you always full of s..., McBeef?"

Richard McBeef told the violent story of a boy killed by his abusive stepfather.

Lambourn's website has been inundated with criticism and threats, with one contributor even printing his home address with a warning.

"This has been passed on to many sites now, including many people who lost loved ones and friends," a contributor, "Elvis" wrote.

"You sir are a fool. You will get what's coming."

However yesterday Mr Lambourn told The Daily Telegraph he would not take the game down.

'Yeah it's staying up – freedom of speech, man," he said.

"Someone is offended by something all the time – it doesn't matter what it is."

The 21-year-old, who speaks with an American accent, said he was born in Australia but had lived in the US until he was 14.

He said he had refused an interview with Channel Seven because the TV station would not pay him.

Mr Lambourn said he wanted to buy a movie camera with the money because "I have aspirations".

"I don't have a job and I don't go to school," he said.

"I'm after a dream of artistry – I want to do a movie or animation."

Mr Lambourn said his request for a donation was "just a joke".

"People were angry so me and my friends thought it would be funny," he said.

However online responses to the game have not seen the funny side.

While some people congratulated Lambourn on his game, others attacked it.

One comment blasted Lambourn as "the most tasteless, morally lacking, retarded human being I've come across in quite a while".

"Holding good taste for ransom is beyond evil, and I hope Newgrounds (the gaming website) takes down your "game" (which they can do without regards to your little ransom demands).

"You should take down that "donation" link and apologize immediately for this worthless attempt at publicity and attention whoring, you undeniable jackass."
