Balut (warning: gross)
Posted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 1:20 pmThe book in the Gately bathroom is a trivia book called "Scatterbrained". I just read this lovely entry not too long ago and wonder if any NWOers here have actually tried this.
"[i]Balut[/i] is a Filipino delicacy so offensive to Westerners that eating it was a challenge on [i]Survivor: Palau[/i]. Literally an aborted duck fetus incubated for eighteen days in a hatchery, its half-formed eyes, legs, feathers, and beak are all present and accounted for. More disgusting that its look, however, is the way it's eaten. First it is boiled. Then you crack open the shell and suck out the amniotic goodness. Then you dip the fetus into a little salt before tossing it down the hatch..."
Told you it was gross. Or maybe I'm just a big Western wimp!
