Okay, I know I've been busy for the past several weeks digging 5'x5' holes in the earth in 95 degree heat, probably causing brain fry, so maybe that is why I can't understand this statement taken from a Yahoo news report about the murder of a wife and 3 kids by a man named Vaughan. Can anyone explain to me why these two separate murder charges are different?

"Prosecutor James Glasgow, who declined to discuss possible motives, said Vaughn was charged with two murder counts per victim. One set of counts alleges he shot with intent to kill and the other alleges he shot knowing that it was likely to cause death or great bodily harm."
