alcohol
Seeing the latest shenanigans of Lindsay Blohan on the news re: DUI and coke possession (and even if you try to avoid it, it's plastered all over the news), something stands out to me. Her publicist or manager or whomever said something to the effect of "alcoholism is a terrible disease, Lindsay's under a lot of pressure, her life is so hard, blah blah blah..."
I call horse manure on the alcoholism-is-a-disease part. I've never agreed with that "diagnosis". A disease is not a choice ! An addiction is NOT a disease. Addictions are incredibly tough, and may take a lifetime to cope with. But you can stop. You may relapse, but you can still stop. The choice is yours. I've seen a family member grapple with the drink, and they stopped cold turkey. Another family member also stopped cold turkey, and still attends AA meetings 20+ years later. Neither of them blames anyone but themselves for their OWN past choices.
What do you guys think ? You can ream me and tell me to go to hell if you think alcoholism is a "disease". I still maintain my opinion. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.[?]
