Wow, did any other sports fan see this [i]pitcher's[/i] performance? He got the W picthing 7 innings with 7 strikeouts and giving up only 3 hits. He also wen 4-for-5 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs! What in the name of Babe Ruth would the Diamondbacks have done in the game without him?!

Of course, he was 0-for-5 with a 5.7 ERA before this. [B)]

I saw the highlights this morning. Incredible! The one HR he hit to dead center was estimated at over 440 feet. It's great to see stories like this and the Rick Ankiel story - it helps offset the negative shit like Barry Bonds and Jose Offerman.

Yes, that was very cool.
I am more impressed by single game accomplishments like this than home run tabulations based on steroids.

In that case, how about my favorite oddity...

There have only been 12 major leaguers who have hit two grand slams in one game, including the ones by my high school alum Nomar Garciaparra. But I was watching the game in which a player hit two grand slams in the same INNING! Fernando Tatis of the Cards did it at Dodger Stadium in the 3rd inning of a game in 1999. It's so bizarre, I really don't think that feat will ever be repeated.

My best softball game was 5 for 5 with three homeruns, two conventional over the fencers and one inside the park job. Hit homers my first two at bats, can't figure why they kept pitching to me. I played shortstop so getting the W on the mound wasn't happening. Sounds like the Arizona pitcher was a one man wrecking crew.

My favorite statistical oddity is the one by Scott Hatteberg. On August 6, 2001 he performed the ultimate baseball opposite. Hatteberg hit a grand slam one at-bat after lining into a triple play. He's the only player to ever do this in one game.

How bout them D-Backs!!! Owings has struggled all year but what do you expect. He has been used as a pinch hitter earlier this season as well. The thing that has always baffled me....Every level of baseball starting in Little League, the stud pitcher is usually the guy that just mashes at the plate as well. What happens when they get to the pros. I realize they aren't taking any swings but why the heck not??

and how about Brandon Webb pitching 43 consecutive scoreless innings? 3 consecutive complete game shut-outs. In this day and age...

I remember that, and against my Dodgers. That was something else. If I remember right the dodger dugout even came out and shook his hand at the plate. Good stuff [:D]

I'm assuming that the mini-bat was respresentative of his overall contribution during his Dodger tenure?

How about probably the best pitching performance of the season and a sure-fire nominee for the Rolaids Relief Pitcher of The Year Award - Wes Littleton, of the Texas Rangers, who was able to earn a [i][b]Save[/b][/i] after nailing shut their recent victory over Baltimore, which they won
