Sloooooooooow smoked bbq ribs and chicken. Started in the morning. Meat wasn't ready til about 5 o'clock. Real charcoal, apple bark chips from the local orchard. Corona's and limes while waiting. Cape Cod 3C Ale for when the meat came, 3C standing for a touch of cumin, corriander, and cardamom - pungent and killer with MEAT. And yeah Phil, freakin' amazing day, especially at dusk...perfect.

I am relegated to the sacred halls of my college, where I am forced to recite German. ("Ich muss zu Hause bleiben und meine Hausaufgaben machen!"- the exclamation point is crucial, of course.) The only up-side is that I'm going to chew some uber-Christian fundie's ass up today in Religious Studies. Then I'll go home and bake cupcakes for my hubby and sweet cherubic kidd-os. [:D]

Anyway, off to BBQ what I can at 5:10 p.m.
Hope everyone got good and stuffed!

Bee-you-tee-ful day today!
Had the family over to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Went with the Blue Moon Belgian White-- nothing fancy, and I like 'em. Unfortunately, the headache should be coming momentarily...
Blir, I used to spend the whole day slow-cooking baby back ribs... It's most definitely worth it in the end, but I've gotten really, really lazy over the past couple of years.
So we went with hot dogs and hamburgers, which I know the kids will eat.
Oh, and Pedro's back!! It's always a good day when the Mets win and that other New York team doesn't.

This weekend was mostly putzing around the south end of boston... winding up at the <a href="http://www.icaboston.org/"target="_blank">ICA, Institute for Contemporary Art</a> (what a gorgeous building!!!)… and enjoying a cookout at a friend's house.
Tonight we cheated and cooked pre-marinated turkey tips bought from some brand new farmer's market-ish store. Make some corn/cherry tomato/scallion salad on the side. Fantastic way to end the weekend.

Hey Glokstadt, can you read German? Or any of you out there? I have a sign that my brother sent me from Germany. I think it means if you park here I'll kick your ass or something. I need help.

What does it say? (Probably, "Squirrel Parking only- violators will be attacked by squirrels at the owner's expense")
I'd like to try my hand at deciphering it, but certainly glok is your man! [;)]

That's a tricky one for me, Philly. I'm only in my second semester and even though I have a dictionary it doesn't help much with the abstracts of translation. I wish glok would get his computer fixed so he could tell you. I simply know this: "who here parks...drive off... additional rim". Yeah, something DEFINITELY gets lost in translation!
Fahren is a fun verb. One conjugation of it is fahrt, which Americans love, of course. It's always fun to say, "Haben Sie ein gut fahrt!" Even if you only mean, have a good trip/travel. Ha.

It's an idiom, easy to get lost in translation.
It "literally" translates into:
WHO PARKS HERE ..........
TRAVEL ON RIMS OF WIDE (or FAR) ONES!
"FELGEN WEITER" has a literal translation of "wide rims". As part of this idiom, it likely changes meaning. I'm guessing something along the lines of:
"Parking for wide rims only"
"Parking for spacecraft only" (rims that have travelled far)
"Parking for fatties only" (a joke)
OTOH, and more likely, "Weiter" combined with "fahrt" also means "continuation of a journey", or going further or farther.
Thus, it could also translate into something like:
"Whoever parks here...just better keep moving along!"...which is along the lines of what philly was thinking it meant ! (a nicer way of saying "if you park here I'll kick your ass!")
I'm not too familiar with these idioms. Also, it could something unique to the region the sign was made or posted...Bavaria, Schwabian, etc.
