Random question here.

How many of you like attending [b]live[/b] sports events ? Whether it be pro (NFL, NBA, etc.), college, minor leagues, whatever.

I'm not a sports person. That's my husband's job, ha ha. But yesterday I went to the my school's season opening football game to get some action shot pix for Yearbook. I stood on the sidelines for the 1st three quarters, snapping away. Usually I assign the students to go, but since it was a daytime game, I went myself. Anyway, I do not normally attend live sports. It's soooo different than broadcasted sports events ! No commercial breaks, screaming ads, commentary, etc. Just the guys, a ball, and cheering crowds. It almost seems very...[i]quiet[/i]. It just got me thinking who the sports fans are here at the NWO...and are live sports that awesome to attend ? Or is it nicer to check out the games from home, comfy on the couch with occasional fridge raids and your own bathroom 10 feet away[:o)] ?

Football - A Blast - Still Preferred
Baseball - Preferred - Meh
Hockey - Awesome - Intolerable
Basketball - Meh - Preferred
Soccer - Preferred - Meh
Motorsports - Great - Meh
Ice Dancing - WTF? - WTF?

I Love baseball and football live.
I was surprised that I also enjoy tennis live and I've been to a couple good golf tourneys that were a lot of fun (especially the ProAm)

I like baseball & football on TV and enjoy golf on tv but it usually lulls me to sleep what with the hushed tones of the commentators and the quiet hum of the Goodyear blimp overhead. [;)]

Anyone in Northern CA needs to go see a Giants game at PacBell park (or ATT) that is one sweet stadium.

I used to love Friday night football games back in Texas. High-school football is like a religion there and it was a lot of fun to freeze my buns off in the stands and eat crap foods (Frito Pie!) and just generally get caught up in the excitement.

Watching sports on TV, however, bores me to death. I couldn't tell you the last thing I sporting event I watched on TV. I think it might have been the last time the Redskins were in the Super Bowl (90? 91? 92?).

The people around you can make it an enjoyable or annoying event. Last baseball game I attended we were near a jerk who thought he was a comedian and yelled at the opposing left fielder for five consecutive innings. Eventually security escorted him from his seats and out of the stadium. Of course he was drinking and had a bunch of kids with him they all had to leave, nice role model.

My dad liked football and baseball and watched them live and on tv...I can't stand watching sports anywhere anytime. Strange how that worked out.

Blir sums it up nicely,I have been to maybe ten N.H.L games and at least half were shitty(dull)and you feel ripped off especially when it,s a two hour drive to either Ottawa,Montreal or Toronto from Myville.

To be clear, I've never NOT enjoyed a live hockey game, from the LA Forum in the old days to the Fleet Center/Banknorth Garden to MSG to the Pond or Philly's FU Center (sadly renamed from it's perfect-for-Philly moniker!). Live hockey is never anything but great IMHO. The TV just kills it. It's amazing what you lose when you don't get the swoosh of the skates to ice and the action behind the puck. THE worst translating sport to TV and probably the reason why it's being beaten by freakin' Poker and probably even Ultimate Fighting in the ratings.

Have to agree that the "live" Hockey is the best!!!

I have only attended Hockey, Soccer (including World Cup matches), and Olympic sports...

I have never, ever, in my 42 years on Earth attended any professional Baseball, Basketball, or Footbal (outside of high school days) games, and I only enjoy watching the NFL on TV, I find the MLB too boring, and really don't care to see NBA on TV either...

OK, I'm probally wierd when it comes to proferssional sports...

I'm a baseball nut, so I'll "watch" it in any format available- radio, TV (ESPN's Joe Morgan does make me think twice, though), even the auto-refreshing ESPN scoreboard... I'll go to a dozen or more live games per year, and they never get boring. Not even will my 7-year old daughter asking "is it over yet" for the last four innings put a damper on a live game at the ballpark.

Minor league baseball is fun with the kids. There's always something going on between innings. And the players usually are genuinely gracious and friendly while on the field during their pre-game workouts.

"Live" NHL hockey is far superior to TV, but I can tolerate it on TV. The action in hockey really translates poorly to television. Oh, right, there was that FOX "glow" puck...

I've been to a handful of live NFL games, and most of the time I have no idea what's going on, except that my fingers, ears, and toes are about to rot off from frostbite. That's one sport I prefer to watch in front of my TV. With proper climate control.

I do not care much for basketball. I've attended one NBA game in my life, and the tickets were in a luxury box, so naturally I cannot settle for watching basketball in a mere arena seat at any time in the future.

I experienced golf "live" at the US Open at Bethpage a few years back. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had access to a hospitality tent at the time... Not that golf on TV is any better, in my opinion.

Live Hockey is the best. Football games get boring. Too many tv timeouts. The action only lasts about 3-5 seconds each play. Would rather watch football on tv anyday. With all the commercials I can do other things.

Hockey - live = awesome. Most memorable, was at Leafs - Sens, Game 7, 2002 playoffs, the satisfaction of the Leafs defeating the Sens [:)]. First Leaf game I ever went to: Sittler, McDonald and Salming were still playing for the Leafs [;)]. Tv coverage = excellent (CBC has been doing coverage for over 50 years, they have it down pat. TSN and Sportsnet have great coverage, as well). Go Leafs!! Go Canada (U20 Juniors ruling over Russia) in the current Canada-Russia Super Series, Game 5 from Winnipeg tonight. Canada leading 8 game series 4-0, (having swept the games in Russia). World Jrs tournament is some of the best hockey to watch annually (late Dec/early Jan).

Baseball - Live fine (especially playoff games). On tv boring.

Football - Only been to one CFL game (Grey Cup game early 80's). Was behind the Eskimos bench at Toronto's CNE Stadium, could see the ball when it was in the air.

I love volleyball, but that doesn't seem to get nearly enough tv coverage.

I go to my college alma mater's home football games when I'm able (about 3 times a year) and love the atmosphere and the whole experience. I also occasionally go to a basketball or volleyball game there.

My company used to have season tickets to the local NBA franchise. I'd use those a couple times a year. It was fun, but I'm not into it enough to shell out my own money for it.

Then there my kids' games: The two youngest in soccer and the oldest (a HS freshman) on the volleyball team - so I get in some sports watching there.
