I just bought a 2007 Honda Accord (replacing a '94 Saturn!) and I love everything about this car except for one thing...

My CD-R's are not playing on the car's CD player. The 1st song or so will play and then it starts hesitating and stops playing. The actual CD of the same disc plays fine.

These same CD-R's play fine on our 2000 Ford's CD player.

THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR ME!! Anyone else ever have a similar problem? Are current factory-installed CD players unable to play CD-R's? Am I going to have to have a new CD player installed that will play CD-R's w/out issue?

I'm not much of a tech-head, but I really could use some advice/opinions on what to do here.....

Hey bpdp3, I would look in the manual or on the faceplate for which files can be played on this in dash unit. I recently got a new car which will play a variety of music files. The best feature is the ability to play mp3 files. Now I am not limited to 80 min of music space per disc. I don't therefore burn a music cd-r, I make a data disc of mp3 files. Now I can cram 700mb on each disc. You may have this possibility also.

If this is not an option I would try different software to create your cd-r's.

It's kind of a crapshoot bpdp about what will play a CDR and what will not. I've got a Sony home system that won't while an old boombox from the early 90s plays everything. It's a very safe bet that anything that will play mp3 CDs will also play all CDRs - true of my DVD/CD/CDR/MP3 player/recorder. I think most cars now come with CD players that also play mp3s don't they? Except maybe the most base stereo option? I'd ask how much it is to upgrade to the mp3-capable player.

Better yet, for that kind of money, I'd consider hard-wiring a hard-disk system into your car. Not any shitty radio transmitter for an iPod or even a mic-out connection, but a truly line-out based fixed system you can control with its own controller. There's dedicated hard drive systems but those are a bit expensive, or iPod based systems that go for <$250 plus the iPod itself. Here's the one I'm looking at right now:

oh bummer bpdp3; that would be frustrating (since I've got CD-Rs as well). What Blir said makes sense, looking into an mp3-capable player.

How ironic, since today I've got to start looking for a new car too. I am thinking of another Honda Accord, but older. Maybe late 90s, since that's all I can afford. Something small, fuel-efficient, & no-nonsense. Either that or another muscle car !!!!!! (I just came across a nice condition 1971 Chevy Nova !! we'll see how it checks out). At any rate, I'd love for the car I eventually get to have a CD player. That's a big plus for me.

My car is iffy on Cd-Rs. Sometimes it chooses to play them, other times it rejects them. I have no clue why. Blir's suggestion makes much sense, though. Maybe I can ask for THAT for Xmas. [:D]

Hey, KYYX you know what nova means in Spanish? LOL. Actually, my parents had one of about the same year (when it was new). They LOVED it... then (then being the operative word). It would be cool to see you in a muscle car again, though!

Thanks for all the input. I agree that it IS a crapshoot which players will play CDR's and which won't - - my mid-90's $20 boombox plays them as well. The mp3 route may be the best option......

yes, I know about the "Nova" in Espanol translation. A funny advertising blooper, forever enshrined in a cool-ass muscle car. (and later Novas). heh.

Yeah I have a 2005 Toyota that will only play them if it wants to. Seriously, sometimes it will and sometimes the disc will just pop out without warning. Before this car I had a 2000 Pontiac and it wouldn't play them at all.

Car decks are notorious for being picky.

1: Try burning the discs at either 4x or 8x.
2: Try using a CD writer, not DVD writer. DVD writers don't always make good CD writers (eg. bad quality CD burns)
3: Try using a different colour dye on the CD-R, such as Azo (Verbatims use azo dye)

The first CDRs I made about 6 years ago play fine in my car stereo. Newer ones don't. I haven't been able to figure out how to make one that plays in mine. I am surprised that a new car stereo would have that problem.

Well, CD-Rs play fine in my new used little car (99 Nissan Sentra), so I'm happy.[:)]
