I have no idea why this is in the back of my head bothering me, because I really don't give a rat's ass, but...

It is common knowledge that Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr for ripping off I Want A New Drug to make the Ghostbusters theme.

Did Huey win? If so, how much $$$ did he get?

I guess what I'd be most interested in is to read the expert testimony explaining why the two songs are...or are not...the same. And then is it simply the judge who decides if the song was ripped off?

Saw something on TV about this a while back. Here's what I remember:

The studio approached HL to do a song for Ghostbusters after IWAND came out. HL declined the offer. Studio went to RP for a song, who basically came up with Ghostbusters lyrics set to the music of IWAND.

HL sued and won, but I don't know how much he received.

Then, ironically enough, the same studio (I think) approached HL to do a song for one of the Back to the Future movies, which he went ahead and did.

I had some leftovers from the other thread.

I was just thinking that if I was dumb enough to get sucked into a game of "handbags at 20 paces" with you, eight 6, I could soon get my 500 posts and my fifth little yellow star! [8D] Whoohoo!

Then I would have 498 posts saying nothing and 2 about the music (one on Duran Duran and one on Joboxers) but newbies would assume I am an expert with something intelligent to say by virtue of my many posts. I could say stuff like "IMHO the best Yazoo tune is I Before E Except After C" which is utter pretentious bollocks...but some sucker might actually go download the thing on iTunes just to see for themselves!

With my fifth star secured, I could create an alter ego on the board, like retrozill or zilly idol or deargodzilla and write...lol...aNnOyIng maSsages wit pooor sPellgiN and raNDom CApitAliZashuns...lol...to drive you insane.

Oops, time for my meds, gotta go!

I believe they settled out of court.
