On the Acadian side of my family from Nova Scotia, my great-great- great-something-grandfather was a pirate during the American Revolution. Being Acadian, he had no love for the English and he used his sloop to raid their ships.

He must have been pretty good at pirating, because at the end of the war he was honoured in Boston by the Governor of Massachusetts and his son was given a scholarship to Harvard Univerity.

Aaaaargh! I shit you not, matey!

Maybe this explains the 1983-era pirate shirts I used to wear...
