So...has anyone heard from Rotator?

He's been soooo busy lately... and lives downtown area I think...

I have had my papers/photos/clothes all packed and ready to go, the flames got "this" close to my house, the flames stopped about a block plus away from house... I thought we might get evacuated... however, the flames went over to more expensive homes in Stevenson Ranch, and it seems Six Flags Magic Mountain may go up in smoke, as well as Valencia/Canon Country re-kindeled... where it will burn next, who knows... too much ash and smoke, sun and moon are orange all day and night, seems a little freaky... anyway, it's not as bad as San Diego... how they moved 250,000 people, I don't know???

Thanks for the concern Hutter/Glok etc......I live in San Diego proper, which used to seem safe about one day ago. it is definitely burning hard to the south (Chula vista) and to the north (Del mar)...as I woke at daybreak today the sky was completely clear, but as I looked to the south there was a MASSIVE loaf of smoke obliterating the south...and to the north....this is a bad one...driest conditions in over 100 years(!!) couple that with 30 - 60 mph winds and its surprising the whole place doesn't go up...to put me in context. I live about 1 mile from Qualcomm Stadium in Normal Heights...

I just received a text message from my mother in law in Chula Vista. She said they were already evacuated. My sister in law and her Navy husband already transferred to Italy.

We are praying that the fires will be contained immediately.

Glok is actually facing the "L.A. Fires" but Im sure he appreciates the sentiment [:)] ....part of living in so cal...

Hi Rotator, glad you and family are safe, we went through nervous hell yesterday... and for the record I do not live in San Diego, sorry coop, or we would have already met up on your one of your S.D. record runs...

I'm in Santa Clarita, the Saugus area, it burned up to one block from my house, and went away? Now numuerous parts of Stevenson Ranch (LA County proper) and Canyon Country (City of Santa Clarita) are still burning and the Castaic Lake (LA County proper) looks like it may join forces with the Stevenson Ranch fire, as one big mega fire just like San Diego is getting hit with.

Yeah -- It seems like things are moving as well as possible ...over 300 thousand evacuated?It's surreal...I actually just went and gave blood. and I'm really not that nice of a person.[}:)]

Free food, eh ? Massages ? Good to see.
I wonder if SD officials were just "ready" for a disaster like this, and could handle it ? Or if the residents in question were "ready" as well, and could handle themselves ? If so, what does this say about the poor residents of New Orleans? Hmm.

You have to remember that in New Orleans they lost power and were isolated by flood waters. Temps there were probably minimally in the mid-80s and most likely in the 90s; this heat was compounded by the abyssmal humidity abundant in the south.

Just a few factors to consider...

...yeah...I dunno shovelbum....I think S.D. is a "different" city than N.O. the Mayors have handled it very very very differently. most of the solutions here have been community and city based.
