Should I kill myself ? My Hard Drive died

Ok, so I just finished transferring and relabeling all my music folders to a fairly new (less than 6 month old) Western Digital External Hard Drive - (500GB). I bought another 500GB hard drive to back that one up but had yet to do it. Of course, I was adding all my files to itunes and my drive just disappeared! [xx(] It still shows in my device manager but no drive letter. I've tried everything I could think of (other computers, different cords, installed new drivers, uninstalled drivers, etc.) to no avail.

Any Data Recovery gurus out there? Suggestions?

I would be happy to pay for shipping both ways, you are welcome to copy the 250+ GB of music, etc. (I'm happy to pay you as long as it's reasonable) if you are pretty sure you can recover the data.

It's not the end of the world - I was lucky enough to copy all of my music to another hard drive for a friend so I can get most of that back. What I can't get is the hours of vinyl transfer work that I have on there, both on completed records I was going to post on my blog as well as future releases. All of the new wav files are on there.

Anyway, shoot me an e-mail azlocal at g mail

Holy shit Coop. [:(][:(][:(]

I have some recovery tools for Fat32, Unix & Mac formats. Nothing for NTFS though. By chance was the disk left at standard Fat32 direct from the manufacturor? I can give it a crack if so. I can also fedex back my pocket 250G with whatever I vinyl rips I got from you on it. This is why I pay a premium for LaCie D2 drives now after having my own disaster about a year ago.

I'm sure it's FAT 31 or FAT 32, whatever it takes.[:o)]
Actually, I will be able to recover all the rips I've posted it's the ones that were done and not yet posted and the ones I was in the middle of working on that are the big loss, from a time aspect.

No changes, I took it out of the box and plugged it in. It has hardly had any use, I just recently moved things over to it. It seems like just a day or two ago I was so excited.....and then this!!![:0] Dude, if you think you can do it, It's worth a shot!!!

And Philly, don't worry, I 'll be back up in no time for ya!!!

It's the shits... my computer is still down although I don't (or really know) it's the hard drive, will see this weekend, finally!

Thanks Tim W. for the rescue disc... hope to be up and running.

I know how it feels Coop, I bought a 500GB HD on a Thirsday night, installed on that Sat., copied all over (well at least the music and My Docs folder), and then Sunday wham-o, ka-boom...

I know exactly how it feels. Last christmas my external drive died. Like a fool, I never backed it up & had to start from scratch. I think I finally re-loaded everything I lost last week, or at least close to it. I'm sure I forgot tons of stuff though.

Good luck Coop!

All of these horror stories about drives crashing has prompted me to go out and buy another 500gb external drive. I have been using the Western Digital 500gb for almost a year now and have no problems other than a mysterious virus that popped up as soon as I plugged it in. Virus gone and it's doing fine but maybe I ought to look at something else just to be on the safe side. I'd hate to loose the 300 some odd GB on there. I have 120 backed up on the internal but have yet to provide a safe haven for the rest. Will look for another make and model this weekend.

What, so viruses are coming pre-installed now? [:(!][xx(]

I sooooo don't want to modernize . . .

Do you think these guys might be able to help?

I bought a data recovery software package when I lost my external. It worked, but everything was terribly fragmented & unlistenable.

I have a Seagate - it was cheap & I suppose you get what you pay for. It's been working fine for the past year though.
