I don't know how widespread this JACK FM format is, but I have heard it in a few different cities now.

When they started up in Vancouver it was a refreshing change and they played quite a few lesser known (not obscure, but lessser known)new wave tunes.

I haven't listened for awhile, but had the radio on for a sum total of maybe 45 minutes over the course of the weekend. During this time, I swear I heard every John Couger Melancamp single ever released, not to mention Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen. In other words, the same boring crap that was on the radio back in 1984.

No wonder I stick to my iPod.

I agree but I will add that all fm radio sucks. Nothing but commercials.

I find the "Jack" programming at least listenable. While it wouldn't be my first choice in music, the way they mix the chosen songs in together is refreshing. If you don't like what's currently playing, just wait 5 minutes and it will be completely different.

Because of this unpredictability, an old rock song on Jack is a surprising memory. While the same song played on a dinosaur rock station seems just one more flogging of the dead horse.

And then there's "Jill"... their sister station that supposedly appeals to those with more estrogen.

I listened to Jack (Vancouver) years ago, but got bored of it because they repeated the same stuff.

The attitude they try to have ("playing what we want" + "we don't do requests") is a load of crap.

We have Jack FM and also have Bob FM here also. At first I loved it because at the time I was very sick of Top 40 radio and am not into country music at all so it was nice to have more variety however I'm quickly growing tired of it also and noticed that Jack's mucic library isn't nearly as big as he claims it is!! I gotta listen to the radio sometimes, because the CDs don't have the traffic reports. So Bob FM's the default station. I think their playlist has shrunk over the past couple of years, and I really don't need to hear a Journey song every day. But sometimes they surprise you. This morning they played "Under the Milky Way".

I feel yer pain Zill.We had Joe Fm(now gone)in Kingston and the same top 40 format from different decades drove me insane. The new format at the former Joe started out not bad but is now going down the same road with Beatles,B.T.O,Queen and that fucker Neil Young played over and over...yikes.
