That is insane! If you walk around NY, every single person has a coffee. Everyone starts their day with one here.Now to beat us, people in Chicago must carry buckets of coffee with them.

Philly, after all my trips to NY, I have yet to find anything that even begins to resemble real coffee. New Yorkers drink a lot of brown water. [;)]

OK, Tim's is about on par with Dunkin Donuts. I'm thinking about Cafe Artigiano, JJ Bean, Bean Around the World and the great coffee shops of Commercial Drive in Vancouver...

Diner coffee is the best..any place in the world!

yah, suprising list about the most caffeinated cities. Perhaps it's a statistical thing: NYC, being such a populated city, may have a ton of coffee drinkers, but there are also a ton of people there who do not drink coffee, so it averages out like this.
I am a bit surprised to see Phoenix and the FLA cities up so high: such hot, hot cites. You'd think coffee and tea and other toasty Starbucks drinks would not be the beverage of choice to help cool you down. (well, the study does include colas). It's kind of like in Egypt. When I travelled around Egypt, it was a common sight to see people (mostly men) sitting at all the sidewalk tea houses, drinking cup after cup of hot tea and sharing the communal hookah. They'd be right out there in the 100+ temps, robed from head to toe, turbans too, but apparently drinking hot tea (or hot beverages in general) makes you sweat, and thus these men were, in theory, sweating it off. The sweat was supposed to cool you down.

Around here everyone gets iced coffee in the summer. Or iced tea. Oh, excuse me, that's "sweet tea". Damn, now the Dixie nazis are going to bust in my door.
