Dead at 69. After a period of failing health.
Rest in Peace or more likely Rest in Pieces

That sucks [:(]. Dude was NUTS. I'll never forget when he tried to jump the Snake River Canyon on that "sky cycle" thing. [:D]

This guy was part of many of our boyhood memories. I mean, for who else would we watch an hour and a half run-up to a 5 second event on ABC Wide World of Sports? Meanwhile, crappy CBS Sports Spectacular had barrel jumping from somewhere in the Adirondacks. I even read one of those 'young reader' books on Kneivel's life and times. Big bummer.
I'm also thinking about how many of us would have attached playing cards to our bike spokes and tried jumping bricks and planks if it weren't for him. He really is almost mythological, realizing that could easily sound like a reach...but I don't think it is.

That was a bit of a joke...the parachute deployed while the "sky cycle" thing was still going up the take off ramp. That slow motion film of the Caesar's Palace jump(I think that was the casino) where he's snapping like kindling is always a tough yet fascinating watch.
Govern yourself accordingly.

I jumped many a "Snake River Canyon" with mine!
Like Blir said, an hour and a half build up to a 5 second Failure! Caesars Palace was classic!!! Still, who wasn't all geared up for one of his jumps!

I still have mine, and in the original box.
Evel was the closest thing our generation had to a honest to God superhero. When Aurora toys released their 1975 line of superhero models and puzzles, ol' Evel was in the mix next to Superman and the Incredible Hulk. Not bad for a mere mortal.
