He's pretty much our only hope at this point.

He'll place anywhere between 3rd and 5th tonight, behind Huckabee and the cult member and hopefully either slightly ahead of or slightly behind Rudy and McCain. Hopefully this will give him some momentum and help him rise above the mainstream media's plot to keep him under the as under the radar as possible.

I don't trust him. Or anyone else who doesn't "believe" in evolution, including Huckabee. Frankly, I'd trust the so-called "cult member" (and I have real objections over an LDS being called a "cult member") long before I'd trust either of the aforementioned two, and as he's one of the most attractive candidates the Republican party has at this point I am rooting for him in tonight's Iowa caucus.

I like the guy, but it was recently pointed out that he believes evolution is "only a theory." The notion that the foundation of modern biology is somehow shaky, or that a scientific theory is somehow ranks [i]below[/i] that of facts is a tough one for me to gloss over. Also the "return to the Gold Standard" seems pretty radical and half-baked. Though disappointing, it does highlight that the guy is human and flawed like any of us.

Seeing that Kucinich isn't making much headway, Paul is probably the closest ideological match (at least with regard to foreign policy and constitutional rights). He'll have to run as an independent, however, because the Republican party is pretty much dominated by people who believe (check all that apply):<ul><li>permanent war</li><li>tax-cuts</li><li>imperial presidency</li><li>police state</li><li>deporting illegals</li><li>hating on teh gays</li><li>the Rapture</li></ul> provides the answer to all societies ills.

I'd like to see Paul continue to make headway, and I encourage all to at least check out his positions.

Technically, they're all cult members. I was being as kind as possible.

With regard to Romney and "cults" -- sure, LDS is a cult (and a bizarre one at that), but then all religions are cults. I have some friends who are Roman Catholics who disparage the foundation and history of LDS, but I find that laughable and richly ironic. [}:)]

I'm an independant and live right on the Iowa border in Illinois. I'm so tired of all the media being saturated in the political muck. O'Bama and Huckabee are the winners with Ron Paul off the Radar. I wonder if it hurt him with a ame sounding so close to Rupaul? At least Mrs. Clinton came in third.

Clearly you have no understanding of the definition of the word "cult". To say that all religions are cults is to say that everyone is in effect a member of a cult, because every single one of us believes in something. Even atheists are waging their entire existences on their belief that there is no God, which would mean that they too are in a "cult" as you apparently define it.

I've never been so affected or motivated by a candidate as I have been by Ron Paul. I don't agree with everything he stands for but for the first time in my memory we have a candidate who has largely forsaken special interests, refuses to pander, stands continually on principle, and embraces the Constitution (for real) as well as the intent and spirit of the Founding Fathers' wisdom on personal liberty and a sensible foreign policy. The sense I get is that he wants the nomination because he genuinely is concerned about the welfare of the nation, rather than his own desperate, ego-driven desire for power - which is how most of the other candidates come across.

I've never been a registered Republican (or an unregistered one for that matter) but tomorrow I'm mailing in my registration so I can vote for him in the closed primary in my state.

Being a Libertarian If I were to vote republican Paul would get my vote. Although he did better than I thought in Iowa (10%) he doesn't have snowball's chance of the national nomination. I'm convinced that neither party really wants significant change from the status quo. I certainly don't agree with all his views: He's much too socially conservative for me. And some of his notions (get rid of the FDA?) are quite bizarre.

I have no desire to see the U.S. turn into a theocracy, which is exactly what we'd be risking with Huckabee or Romney in the White House. I have nothing against either of their religions--I just don't think either could be trusted to keep their religous dogma away from how they govern.

I was interested to see Obama win handily in Iowa with Sen Clinton coming in third. If it ends up being Mccain or Huckabee vs Obama or Clinton who would you vote for[?]

I think it's great that Obama won this one. As a woman & a Dem, it's hard for me to say that I'm glad Hillary got her butt kicked. But I am lukewarm to her. She seems to represent More of the Same to me. I am wary. Also, I look askance at the "inevitability" of her presence so far. That's why I think it's pretty cool, and definitely very interesting, that she got beat by both Edwards and Obama. Sends a message that voters want something new. I was listening to this Howard Dean interview from last night, and he was shocked at Obama's win. Even he seemed swept up in the inevitability of Hillary. I know Edwards has been a Senator for a while, enough to be part of the system. (including the despised Iraq vote, blech). But come on. He's still different enough.
I got geeky a while last night, listening to all the post-caucus dissections. They told this stat that this has been the first race since early 1920s that an incumbent or a vice pres has not been in the running. The field is wide open this year. This is a historical time. There really is no telling right now who will get it in Nov. !
