In watching the lead up to the New Hampshire Primary (my condolences to all of you who live there--I'm sure the endless ads and phone calls are just loads of fun[;)]) I'm struck with all the candidates talking about change. I think no matter what your political bent we all agree there are a number of issues that are important in the coming years. So lets assume a couple of things:
1. candidate X (GOP, Dem, Ind, Other) becomes Presdient
2. He or She actually decided to keep a campaign promise
3. A bipartisan coalition came together with President X to solve ONE problem. What one problem facing the U.S and the World should President X address?

I'll go with immigration issues. Job #1 should be slowing our descent into third world shithole status, then we can worry about the other issues.

Economic Growth. Address that and you'll be discussing The War in Iraq/Afghanistan, Health Care, Domestic Security/Terrorism Issues, Immigration Issues, Federal Deficit, The Sub-Prime Crisis, Energy Independence and even Environmental Issues at the same time. Everything is money. And money is everything.

I agree with marvymarv. An effective economic growth strategy and implementation is key. And, while we're at it, let's stop outsourcing our jobs to other countries!!!
We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Here's a good one....I work in the plastic manufacturing industry. We had a large account with a big company (I won't say the name but it sounds like phony). They pulled out last year and moved their equipment and jobs to Mexico. A lot of people lost jobs at their facility and ours. They are now asking us to run more of their product line because they couldn't get the quality from Mexico.
So how much money was lost trying to save money? Keep the jobs here. Quit outsourcing to China, Mexico....

Hey, I work in transportation/logistics and I have a job because of outsourcing to China! The group I'm with now employees over 800 people in the US, mostly jobs created that weren't there 10 years ago.

Lots of good views but I have to say that I think preserving civil liberties is most crucial because without them we will have little chance of affecting change in any of the other areas. It is very hard to choose though!

all worthy issues,
but my vote ultimately comes down to Education. Our system needs help, and this No Child Gets Ahead Act needs to go away.

The wars are costing us SO MUCH MONEY. There are soldiers on their 4th combat tour in 5 years (unheard of!) and for crying out loud, people are dying!
I honestly don't think anything else can be fixed until the wars are finished.
