Mort Garson, a pianist and arranger of the 50s/60s who helped bring the Moog synthesizer to popular attention, died 1/4/08. Starting in 1968 he released a series of albums using the Moog. Though I was not a fan, my favorite was "Black Mass" under the name "Lucifer." Though his music does not directly bear on NWM, as one of the early people that adopted the synthesizer, he certainly conditioned the ears of the time for some of the sounds of the future.
Btw, he is the co-writer of "Our Day Will Come," the Ruby and the Romantics hit of the early 60s.
