Totally random thought/question of the day

Yesterday during the Packers/Seachickens game, the announcers were all over Brett Favre's dick (as they always seem to be) for seeing an obviously bad spot of the ball and persuading his coach to challenge the play. The ref's error was so obvious that my gf said even Ray Charles would have done better.

This got us wondering ... have there been any blind singers/musicians lately? There used to be tons of them ... hell, every other blues musician was named "Blind" something or other ... and in the 70's when I was growing up, I remember hearing Stevie Wonder, Ronnie Milsap, and Jose Feliciano on the radio a lot. But now I can't think of one since Jeff Healey.

So now it's kind of bugging us. What's the deal? Are fewer people blind these days and as a result, there are just naturally fewer blind musicians? Or are they out there and we just haven't heard of any?

See? I told you it was totally random.

I'm sure the medical pros who are on this site will know more about this than I do, but I think in the 1940s and 50s a lot of premature babies went blind from the oxygen treatments given to help their underdeveloped lungs.

So, yeah, I think there are fewer blind people--at least fewer people who are blind at a young age.

Thanks, Hex ... I figured there had to be a logical explanation.

About the only person I can think of is a model, Amanda Swafford who always reminded me of Annie Lennox. She has a degenerative eye disease & on her way to being completely blind. I also don't think she had much of a career past the Top Model show

That is a totally random thought, isn't it?

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I'm sure hexicon is right on the medical side of the equation. However, as Trevor Horn once said, "video killed the radio star". The image makers determined that pop music is gonna be sung by young, good-looking men and women. Red and white canes ain't sexy.

The messed up thing is that I have dozens of these every day. It's a wonder I ever get anything done.

If no one ever raised the issue of "why?", progress would be halted dead in its tracks.

P.S. - I get like this too after too much coffee
