Ronaldo faces nine-month injury lay-off

Brazilian striker Ronaldo, who faces a major battle to save his career, underwent his third knee operation in Paris on Thursday.
The 31-year-old now faces at least nine months on the sidelines and will only be able to think about returning to action with AC Milan at the end of the year.

Ronaldo flew to Paris after rupturing a tendon in his right knee during AC Milan's 1-1 draw with Livorno on Wednesday.

Italian media speculated whether, after the catalogue of knee injuries that "Il Fenomeno" has suffered in the past, Ronaldo's latest setback might spell the end of the world champion's career.

In November 1999 and again five months later, he suffered similar problems but returned after the best part of two years on the sidelines following surgery to lift the World Cup with Brazil, scoring in the final win over Germany and finishing tournament top scorer.

Coop...you'll appreciate this. I heard the news on TV, heard "Ronaldo" and panicked. Luckily, it wasn't Christiano Ronaldo!

Ronaldo is a great, great player but he has been out of shape the last few years and it has, unfortunately, caused his body to break down. I hope he recovers.

He got really fat when he played in Real Madrid... here sports journalists were always talking about that and making jokes about his weight.

Agreed! I know that Kaka got world player of the year and that's hard to argue with but Christiano Ronaldo should have had the second spot ahead of Lionel Messi. He is definitely playing at a higher level than him

Yeah...I think "kaka" was the same term used by Ringo Starr and John Matuszak in Caveman to refer to dinosaur shit.

Are you sure it's not the boyish good looks that annoy you????[;)]

Most times, players tend to take too many touches, he seems to be able to consistently get away with it though. You can often see the "uh oh" factor on a defenders face when they realize they are locked in a 1 on 1 battle.
