My doorbell just rang and it was my neighbors daughter. She just told me that one of my old friends just died. This is terrible. I'm pretty good when it comes to death being in the field that I am but this is strange. Its like a movie or something. I was in touch with him for all these years because I bought the house next to his brother. All my old friends would get info on him through me. We would all hang out and we were close but as we grew up we all went different ways. Now after not seeing them for around 15 years(but still staying in touch with some) I have to see them at the wake. (thank God I still look good)
This is going to be very strange and emotional to see them. I had one friend that might be there that was my best friend for years and we don't even speak now. Oye!
Thanks for letting me air people. DEVO!

I'm sorry for your loss, philly.
Make something good come out of a tragedy. Let it be an opportunity to renew old acquaintances and reminisce about some great times!

maybe you should take this opportunity to search some old threads here for some great 80's New Wave "Wake" music. Wouldn't that be a great way to pay respects![8D]
Other than that, I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks guys. yeah its just weird. I had to call his best friend to give him the news. I have not talked to him in 13 years! He was married to one of my best friend but got divorced. I have to call him back tonight. I'm not sure about the new wave wake music but the situation made me think about less than zero. We think he died of an o.d. I don't get real emotional over this stuff, it just makes me think a lot.

Hey Philly, sorry for your loss. As I posted a couple of months ago, my best friend from high school died from the same thing, accidental OD. She left 6 kids. Her husband asked me to get in touch with all the old friends, some of whom I hadn't seen since our club days 20+ years ago. It's a strange kind of reunion.
Given some of the bad choices she made her early death was not entirely a surprise, and I was prett stoic about it at the time, but now it affects me at unexpected moments. For example, her birthday was last week. We used have great Valentine-themed parties for her when we were kids. She was my best friend at a very formative part of my life, and when two people know so many things about each other that only the other knows, it's a strange loss to be the only person left who knows those things. I guess that's an expected loss with a spouse but I didn't expect to be affected that way.
Anyway (sorry to make this about me), I'm sorry about your friend. Although a funeral and wake are a sad excuse to get together, I hope you find comfort in the gathering of your old group.

Sorry to hear about the sad news Phil. You can turn this into a positive of sorts by re-establishing bonds with old friends. Going forward, you can try to get together with them more often.

This would not be a Philly story without some drama. Ready?
Ok, Steve is the guy that died. He was best friends with Willy. Willy married Patty who is friends with Michelle and Evelyn. I was friends with all of them. Steve's brother Vinny lives next door to me. I was the first to get the news. Now Willy and Patty had 2 kids. The son was the godson of Steve. The daughter was my goddaughter.Michelle gets married (3rd time) and moves away. (oh and I am the godfather to her son) Evelyn gets married (after a long affair)(whore) and moves away. Willy and Patty move to Florida. They soon get divorced. Now me and Steve always compared notes on Patty because she kept no contact with us...the godfathers. After 15 years of being ignored I gave up on Patty and sadly my goddaughter. I sent money and gifts to her kids for 15 years. Birthdays, christmas, valentines...all of them. I sent numerous letters and never got any response. Just a card every christmas. I found out through Michelle that Patty dumps her kids off on her mom and goes out partying all the time. She kind od lost it after the breakup and now just parties. It broke my heart but I had to just stop being stupid and stopped sending stuff.I never kept up with Willy but for no reason, we just went about our lives. Here comes my problem........The funeral. At first Patty was not going, probably cut into happy hour or something. Now she is. I have nothing but hatred for this whore and now we will be in the same room. Now most of you will advise that it is a funeral and we should have respect......my wife can't stop laughing. Because if you know me at all, I would explode if I had to keep my mouth shut with this bitch. And no I'm not an adult. My wife just keeps laughing. I told her have faith in me I can handle it. She ran out of the room laughing. Lets face it folks, something is going to happen. Stay tuned. I may just fling her into the casket.More than likely I will just bait her with snide remarks and hope for a confrontation.
I told my wife with a straight face "you know I don't handle pressure well". She ran out again.
If you don't know me, picture my life as a sitcom.

Well....there's a lot for us to absorb there, Philly. Clearly, Patty is the issue. There are many strategies you can employ here. I know how hard it is to keep your mouth shut (I, sometimes, suffer the same problem), but wouldn't it just kill her if you basically ignored her? I mean, not in the "I'm ignoring you (you whore)" kind of way. Ignore her in the "You have no relevance in my life (you whore)" kind of way. It sounds like she is extremely self-centered and this will absolutely crush her. And you will win!
Plus, if ever thought you have about her is concluded with "you whore", it can be lots of fun!
Of course, the "you whore" should be spoken in your mind, Philly. Don't vocalize it or you'll draw attention away from the reason that everyone is there...respect for your friend.
We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

New update! I know you are on the edge of your seats!
I just got off the phone with Willy. We have not spoken for about 15 years. Did I forget to mention that he left Patty for another woman? A much better upgrade of a woman? So of course Patty hates him. She was a nag and drove him crazy but let me get back on track. So he says he is flying in thursday or friday and needs a place to crash. Well no problem, stay with me! (your ex wifes ex best friend) This will send Patty over the edge because she has no place to stay either but I chose Willy. Now Michelle just called but her call was interrupted by......who else? Patty! So I just said tell her Willy will be staying with me and hung up. This is getting good. Willy knows how I am and he suggested that me and him go to another funeral to avoid a problem with me exploding. More to come! Devo.
