Does anyone believe Obama's utter shock and surprise at the Youtube performances of his spiritual advisor, friend, and mentor. A member of his church for more than 20 years and he acts as if he has never heard any of this rhetoric. His book "The Audacity Of Hope" was titled after a Rev. Wright sermon. I do believe he also was a member of his advisory committee.

It could be a great pay-per-view fight...[:p]

I think it started out in 1984 by the then Republican Reagan White House to kill the white homos, but then once the KKK got a hold of the virus, they shipped it over to Africa to whipe out the black man...[;)]

This could spell a little bit of trouble for Obama...the comparisons of Wright to McCains (also nutty) spiritual advisor are incongruent. Like enzfan said ---there is a major complex relationship there...personally, I don't think Obama gives a fuck about any of it --I think he joined that church as a political move in the first place...

I've watched different news programs today and saw an assortment of African American pastors and activist try to explain this away as statements being taken out of context. How can his rants be taken out of context? If the shoe was on the other foot and these types of statements were being made in a white church about other races and broadcast all over the country you would have every media whore out there protesting tomorrow. I guess his defenders are taking to heart the Las Vegas convention bureau advertising slogan with a religous twist "What's said in church, stays in church".

Do you think this could swing any delegate votes?

Everyone on the left knew this type of narrative would emerge. You know, the right-wing campfire fantasy wherein a strong, white patriotic hero runs for president against a threatening, angry black man.

Obama has written and published his memoirs, he's an open book as far as his political beliefs, his legislative record, tax records and, yes, his personal beliefs. If anyone in the media wants to know what Obama believes, they can just ask him, and he actually gives straight, non-bullshit answers (take that, Hillary). If you do two minutes of research, you'll find that this kooky pastor is no Svengali figure in Obama's career, and Obama is no black panther candidate.

Meanwhile, John McCain is actively wooing every religious hate monger to bring in the evangelical vote. But 'Yawn', that's a far less savory narrative because [i]those[/i] evangelical nutjobs aren't brown-skinned.

When Obama gets the democratic nomination, people, we can expect the rest of this entire campaign to be about Obama's race-- his white ex-girlfriends, the gangsta rap he allegedly listens to on his iPod, something racially offensive one of his advisors once said, the fact that he attended a step-show hosted by a black fraternity, that some lunatic third-world dictator (or Bin Laden) wants him to win, etc. All of which, of course, is a result of no-one giving a f*** about discussing/learning any of the candidates actual policies are and what their leadership would do for this country.

Yup ... the douchebag will give his little race speech and the idiots will lap it all up. After all, he's "eloquent".

Regardless of your skin color when you align yourself with a nutjob like Wright your judgement has to somewhat be called into question. He was on Obama's spiritual advisory committee until this blew up. Surely he has heard this bilge spew from Wright's piehole more than a few times. But now he finds it offensive when he is running for the Presidencey. In political hindsight he should have severed ties with Wright and the church before announcing his presidential bid.

Fair enough, enzfan. Should I understand you then to agree that standards should be applied equally, and that John McCain should repudiate and sever ties with the GOP factions of John Hagee, Rod Parsely, Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson?

They all should take a closer inventory of the excess baggage an association or endorsement carries. Although I doubt it will ever happen, seems to be a common theme every national election.

I didn't know these things about him...it certainly lessens my opinion of the man. Well, not really...he's hardly the change people hope he'll be.
