Who would have thought that one of the dumbest comic strips ever would be improved by removing the main character? Thanks to the efforts of this website that takes old strips and removes Garfield, leaving the cat's owner (Jon?) to muse by himself. Suddenly, the strip becomes an elegy on "schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life."

"Garfield without Garfield" is funny, no doubt about that, but a similar idea was done before with "Arbuckle." Whereas G-G completely removes Garfield and his thought balloons, Arbuckle takes out the thought balloons but leaves the cat in. Also, G-G uses the original artwork but Arbuckle is user-submitted.

They're each funny in their own ways. G-G is funny because it shows a schizo and lonely Jon. Arbuckle is funny because it shows how ridiculous pet owners look when their pets can't talk back to them.

Very funny and much less obnoxious![:D] You could even subscribe to the idea that these tell the story of Jon after the passing of Garfield and Odie -- lonely, desperate, losing his mind, still convinced his departed feline bully/pal is still hanging around!

Also, let's not forget the Garfield music video set to "Eyes Without a Face" by Billy Idol.

...or the one set to "Head Like a Hole" by Nine Inch Nails.

Good luck on that! If it is the Whig, then they are so damn backwards that it would not surprise if they ran it in reprints for eternity! [xx(]
Life's what you make it.

The Mar 26 "I've got a cramp in my hand" strip is hilariously charged with sexual deprivation and depravity. I love it.
