My first concert ever was in 1976 when I saw Kiss at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, so how could I miss the opportunity last night to see the Kiss cover band MiniKiss as they played the Block Party for a Cinco De Mayo celebration.

The opening band, The Chris Parker Project was awesome, playing covers as diverse as The Violent Femmes to Sir Mix A Lot to Nine Inch Nails, all the while donned in their Lucha Libre masks!
During one break between songs, some girl yelled "Bring On The Midgets" . The street was packed by the time MiniKiss took the stage.

I'm not convinced the music wasn't pre-recorded (ok, I'm pretty sure it was) and the Paul Stanley clone weighed more than the real Paul Stanley I'm certain. The crowd was pretty into it and MiniKiss even threw in a Black Sabbath cover as well as the best song of the night, a Guns N Roses cover complete with scantily clad dancers (full size).

[:I][:I] I was a big fan circa 77-78 (age 11-12). My friend had a crush on Paul Stanley so that meant that I had to crush on Ace Frehley instead. (The only one whose solo album was any good.) I think I saw them around 1979, the neighbor's mom schlepped us home from the Seattle Center in the ol' station wagon . . .

One aspect of my Kiss crush remains with me to this day--Ace signed his name with a Greek "E"--looks like a backward "3." I thought this was cool and adopted it, much to my 6th grade teacher's chagrin. Still write it that way to this day.

I am a KISS fan, and that sounds like it was a lot of fun [:)]

I love Kiss also.I prefer their 1980-87 stuff most.

Mini Kiss...that must have been a fun show, Coop. Does anyone remember these mini bubble gum albums?

I used to collect them. Wish I still had them [:(]

I'd have to say I liked their music up through Destroyer. Then the music just got dumb, not that it was ever intended for rocket scientists. Rock n'Roll Over was fair and Love Gun was just awful.

Although I only saw one (in addition to the band) in the crowd, I'm quite certain this was the attraction for a good portion of the crowd.
I forgot, two guys in their early twenties next to me having a conversation, one of the guys says: " The sad thing is, these guys are probably getting laid in every city they go to"


Another comment by another guy overhead shortly after they came on stage:
"I am going to have nightmares about these guys tonight"

Yes, that is exactly what it means, although I have somehow managed to stay away from Satan's grip.

Love KISS. Very first concert in 1978. KISS is who turned me onto music. Still love KISS. A great guilty pleasure. Love to watch Family Jewels as well.

My friend is Gene's business partner so I was at the party that was just recently featured in Family Jewels for his store opening.

My brother was a huge KISS fan and I grew to love them over time, especially the early stuff.

Then a few years back they were supposed to play a concert out here and it got cancelled for some reason. One of our local dj's phoned Gene Simmons on his morning show and asked him what happened...was it because they couldn't fit into their spandex anymore? Well, Gene Simmons saw no humor in that comment and showed what a real fucking asshole he is.
