What do you think of it? People keeping their children home...away from social interaction. Unless every school around me was a total war zone, I am against it.

Neither for nor against. I just think you've got to be fucking psychotic to stay at home with the kids!

I think children need to learn from more than just their parents. School is not just books, it is social interaction.

<p align="justify">I've seen three kinds of kids come out of home schooling backgrounds: genius, religious/freaks, and genius-freaks. Very, very weird kids.

I would be all for it. Why let your kids suffer from dumbed down curriculum and bullshit politically correct agendas? I'd only go for public schooling if it was in a town of about 5,000 people in the middle of Iowa or something. The kind of "social interaction" they'd get in any situation other than that, I could do without. They could socialize at martial arts class and little league/football.

True but usually the ones home schooling are doing it to keep their kids under total control. Look at all the problems with home schooled kids. If the parents doing it were normal then ok but most?....well I don't want to name any states but there are a few that most people home school to raise religious nuts. Funny that the end result is an unhappy, non functioning troubled person. Oh that thinks they are better than everyone else.

Generally, I oppose it. I think one learns a lot of life's lesssons in the school yard. And most of the parents who choose to home school aren't exactly the academic achiever types, so I suspect a lot of home schooled kids enter adult life with a lot of knowledge gaps and strange beliefs. Before she died, my crazy friend was planning on switching to home schooling her six kids because she didn't want her kids going to school with "those" types of kids. What she didn't realize that due to her bad parenting everyone else considered HER kids "those" types of kids.

One of my good friends from high school is home schooling her 13 and 15 year old kids because she lives in a fairly rural area where it seems like everyone else is on meth. Out of all the different kids of my various friends, hers are actually the nicest and most well adjusted--they're involved in a lot of outside athletic activities so they get a lot of peer interaction that way. When she takes them to home-school PE at the Y, she is the only mom there who's not a relgious crazy.

The good thing about home schooling your kids is that you can fool around on the internet all day.....

and you know your kids will grow up to be no trouble at all. LOL!

Wow, I was really slow on the uptake with this one . . .

I have mixed feelings about it. One of my best friends was homeschooled (as were her two siblings) and all three are completely normal people. Two of them are brillant--one is working on her doctorate and the other is now a medical student. But, they had brilliant, normal parents--not whackjobs.

I never entertained the idea of homeschooling until my kids ended up in one of the crappiest school districts in the country. I could do it, and do it well (meaning I'm not exactly stupid and I'm not nutters, either), but I don't think I'm up for it emotionally. I compromise: they go to public school and I constantly drag them to art galleries, museums, libraries and other educational places to round out their educations.
