Forget about the pledge of allegiance and the flag lapel pin. Can anyone argue that it shouldn't be a requirement to know how many states we have if you want to be president?

He said 57 and meant 47. He's been to 47 of the contiguous states for his campaign.

Bashing politicians for this kind of misstatement grew old with Dan Quayle's p-o-t-a-t-o-e incident. Bash 'em for their policies, actions, hypocrisy, associates, fine. But every person who has ever spoken has had instances where the words out of the mouth didn't match the words in the brain and has spoken the occasional spoonerism or malapropism.
