Bad dubbing of English over Japanese ... early to mid-70's after-school TV show. Sort of a "Godzilla"-like show where the Japanese had the Science Patrol - a groups of so-called scientists who protected the people from monsters from other planets. One of the science patrol guys would take a pen-like thing from his shirt pocket, hold it up in the air and say "Ultra Man" before he became Ultra Man and saved everyone from the monsters. Ultra Man had a blinking light on his chest which would blink faster as his power source became drained.
I used to love this show when I was a kid. Haven't seen it since. Anyone seen it anywhere - either hard copy or on the 'net?

I bought the first 20 episodes of the series on dvd a while back. It's corny but I loved it in my youth.

My favorite episode was about the astronaut that got mutated by space radiation and came back to have his revenge on the human race. (#23, My Home Is Earth) They spent a lot of time in this episode trying to figure out what this creature was and what it wanted. I think UM had to throw him into a volcano or something. It was really sad.
Yeah. I was a strange little kid. [:p]

I always liked 8 Man. Way better than Gigantor!
How can you go wrong with a theme song like this?
There's a prehistoric monster
that came from outer space.
Created by the Martians
to destroy the human race.
The FBI is helpless,
it's twenty stories tall!
What can we do, who can we call?
Call Tobor the 8th Man,
Call Tobor the 8th Man.
Faster than a rocket,
quicker than a jet.
He's the mighty robot,
he's the one to get.
Call Tobor the 8th Man.
Quick call Tobor, the mightiest robot of them all!

That is hilarious, but the pony-tail sticking out the back of the head covering ruins it for me!

Schwenko, thanks for the link - I especially like the "rare" offerings [;)]
Enzfan, yes it is corny, but I loved it when I was a kid! My kids would just roll their eyes and look at me like I'm nuts ... or maybe they might like it - who knows? [;)]
Dream Redux - if you were a strange kid then so was I [;)] My favorite "monster" was the lobster-like thing that could replicate itself all over the place to confuse UltraMan. Dumb thing stood upright with the scissor-like lobster claws - for some reason it freaked me out back then. Overactive imagination, I'm sure!

Ive never seen the american dub but did you ever showed the monsters sliced in half in the states? I know they censored japanese shows like G-Force, Voltron and Robotech like hell here in the states back then. Some of the content was just too hardcore for american kids according to the ratings board
