Squirrel Update For Philly

In an effort to keep abreast of all potential deviant squirrel behavior east of Philly's territory, I managed to obtain this surveillance photo of an advanced scout squirrel who was apparently on some sort of exploratory mission.

Actually, I shot this on July 4th. The squirrel was on the first of two umbrellas that my neighbor has on his patio. The top of this umbrella, where the squirrel was perched, is not visible from my neighbor's door, being obscured from view by the second umbrella.
My neighbor likes to feed peanuts to the neighborhood bluejays who flock to his patio every time he opens the door. The squirrel obviously wants to get in on this action but is not welcome. He found a way to get close enough to my neighbor's door to have a fighting chance to get the treat. Smart little bastard!

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Blue Jays hate squirrels! They attack them all the time. In my yard the only time you see a blue jay is when it is going after a squirrel. I usually go outside and laugh at him getting pecked.

The squirrel population was starting to get out of hand again. They have nests built in the trees around us. While I was thinking bow and arrows and fire or maybe napalm, my neighbor accidently stumbled upon a much safer idea...bluejays. He seems to have drawn the bluejay population from miles around because he feeds them. There has been a dramatic increase in bluejays, and the squirrels, for the most part, have been far more reserved than they used to be. The bluejays harrass the squirrels whenever they can.
