[:(]

I had seen this mentioned in the NY Times a few weeks ago, and now someone posts on the Alf forum:

"Went to the Times Square VirginMega (closing in December - R.I.P. - waaaaahhh!!!) and got the only copy I could find - on an endcap display in the DANCE section. None in the "Yaz" section in pop/rock, not on any other displays or anything. HELLO - they're playing live THREE NIGHTS in NYC, someone should have stocked up!!!"

Unbelievable. I remember when they opened that store up. They closed the one in Westbury a few years ago. The Times Square closing is going to hurt even more. I love that store. At least we have Union Square.....

I guess I had bought the second to last copy of In Your Room at the Times Square store last Wednesday. There was at least one other copy of the box set still there at the time (although it was in the "Yaz" section).

It had been MANY months since I had last walked into a brick and mortar record store before going to Virgin that evening. I do most of my music purchasing on-line, like I suppose most people do nowadays. It's not the same experience, though.

Nope. Union Square too. http://gothamist.com/2007/12/22/virgin_megastor.php And the Sunset one in LA closing too... http://articles.latimes.com/2007/dec/27 ... i-virgin27. All but 10 Virgin Megastores to be closed. Which is weird that we wouldn't have even one here...

Sad - that was the last big "record" store in the city, really. (Though it was mostly iPod accessories and t-shirts, really). Now we'll have to go to Best Buy or Circuit City or Barnes & Noble I guess. [xx(] Or go to Rebel Rebel, Other Music or Record Runner, too...and support the little guys. [^]

Guess I have to use what's left on my Virgin gift card quickly!

Can someone start a campaign to get Amoeba to take over the lease on one of the NY stores that are closing?!?!? NYC needs Amoeba!

Extremely weird. I saw Richard Branson in lower Manhattan doing a press event. I was driving by, only stopped for a second and couldn't hear anything he was saying. I wonder if it was about this. The only thing we could forward to now is the massive sales we'll see like we did with Tower. Then again, I spent way too much money on way too many trips.....

<p align="justify">A trip to Amoeba is an event to plan 'cause I have to be there from the time they open to the time they close[}:)]
