Largest amount of money you've ever found

$40. It happened when I was about 16 years old. Two twenties just sitting by a telephone poll as I got out of the car with my Dad. The funny thing was that we were picking up my bicycle from the repair shop (I crashed it while racing) and the bill was going to be $43, most of which my Dad was lending me. Poof...no loan necessary. I always felt that I was "destined" to find that money.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I found an envelope with just shy of a thousand dollars in the drug store a few years ago in an envelope. It was obvious someone just cashed a check. I was thinking maybe a Social Security check because the allotment of where the money was to go was on the envelope and it was the beginning of the month.
I told one of the employees to give me a call if someone came in looking for the money. As I was leaving an old lady came in the store looking frantic. I knew it was hers. She was so happy that I found the money, she was crying and hugging me.

I saw this whole action as I was standing right next to him. I stood there watching and then he almost started to cry... so I left[}:)]

Ironically, many years later, I lost my wallet at a UCSD lecture hall. I had about 280 bucks in it plus all my credit cards, i.d.s, and a buncha other goodies. What's funny is that in my wallet I have a business card with my contact information that says, "Take all the cash as your reward, but return the wallet with the rest of the items immediately." Yeah... I was speeding like a daemon on Genessee Avenue doing 80 mph past yellow lights, swerving to miss other vehicles. I ran the whole fuckin campus and traced every step from the day. I get to the lecture hall - and nuthin'! FUUUUUUUCK[}:)][}:)] I felt so tired and gutted (I also remembered a girl didn't return my call for date). Shit. I was walking back to the parking lot and there's the school police station. I stop by to file a report. Turns out some good samaritan returned the wallet... it was the cleaning guy. Hooooly shit.

GREAT story here! A good friend of mine went to the corner news stand to get smokes. As he was leaving he passed a pay phone outside with a bag next to the phone. He goes over and opens it. (remember this is Brooklyn)
It is FILLED with money. Thousands and thousands of dollars. He picks it up and hears a loud screeching of tires. A car jumps the curb next to him. Before he could even shit himself, a guy gets out and says "you just found that bag?" Then he says trust me, I need that more than you, hand it over. Forget you saw me. The guy takes off. Totally shaking he comes back to work and tells me the story. It was pretty clear it was the mob making collections from local businesses. He stopped to use the pay phone and left the bag. I think my friend is still shaking.
