Why not just toss it outside? You have to wonder why it came inside if its food supply is outside.

Your dispatching the snake (irrationally, imho) just made a lot of rats and field mice very happy.

Now listen here Sally - when there's gymnastics to watch, and a snake is getting in the way, you kill the fucker and get back to the boob tube. Alright?! Jeez.

I can relate. I've killed four or five rattlesnakes in my yard and once one of my cats brought a snake inside for a bit of fun. Once had a raccoon come in through the cat door and eat some food and kick some feline ass before departing. I've also found a tarantula and scorpion either on my house or in my yard. I don't really like to kill them but for my kids . . . The tarantula and scorpion were gently relocated.

We ate it for dinner so all was not lost. I only kill what I eat.

I would have love to kept it as a pet (we have one already) and not being an expert in snakes and in my nearly 40 years in Arizona not ever seeing one and my son looking on the internet as quickly as possible and saying "what color is it?" to which I replied Black and Yellow, and it said online "Black and Yellow, Kill A Fellow" my thought process wasn't what my fellow PETA members would think but rather, is it going to harm my two family pet dogs or worse yet my family? Then, irrationaly I suppose, I bludgeoned it to death when I remembered, that it was a snake. My family was proud of me and carried me down the hall on their shoulders as I held it's limp body victoriously before peeling his skin off and wearing it as a necklace all day today, much to the chagrin of my co-workers. I Fried up the chunks of it tonight. Having eaten rattlesnake on several occasions (and hamburgers too, although I never actually killed the cows myself) and agreeing it tasted just like chicken, this little guy tasted more like domestic house cat to me. Hard to tell though. Next time I will try to think more clearly and capture him and toss him outside so the coyotes can rip him apart. better the snake than me.

In Arizona and the SW aren't there only a couple of poisonous snakes? Rattlers, copperheads-- what else?

I'm surprised you didn't know right off the top of your head!
You are correct about Rattlers, in addition to the dozen or so variations of those, there are several variations of Sidewinders and of course Coral Snakes.

Coop you really should have let it bite you and your kids first to see if it was poisonous. You were being very shallow by killing it.

Now I just need to figure out how to deal with the pack of coyotes behind my house. 'Nother cat went missing last month.
