New Wave Outpost Forum

Vets here know that my batting record at starting longlasting threads is pretty dismal, but what the hey.

The Outpost is comprised of people from all over the world. It seems to me that a thread advertising where a great place you've eaten at or a place that served the best X food item (e.g. Pizza)might be of some benefit to those not in your corner of the world. So without further ado, the rules of this thread are simple. I start with a type of food or partuicular food item, the next poster lists where he/she had the best of that type of food or food item, perhaps a few lines why, and then they list another type of food or food item for the next poster. And so on.

Hopefully this will work...

...a little hole in the wall just bordering Kentucky and Tennessee called Shorty's. The burger was almost an inch thick cooked and was smothered in grilled onions. Gave me the craps for two days but it sure did taste good going down.

WTF? Isn't this like saying "The best italian/spanish/greek/turkish food you ever had was at..."

I will go with Korean. The best I have had was at my next door neighbors. BBQ steak. It was the best. Yum!!! I always try to sneak in over there when they are having a party...

We can work off of Hutters list and go with Chinese food next.

Hot dogs, cheese fries, and a kinish. Nathans on the Coney Island boardwalk. Simply the best.
BTW, I live in Brooklyn so I have a very unfair advantage. We have the best of everything. We have the best Pizza in the world. We also have authentic Jewish, Arab, Polish, Russian, Spanish and a whole lot more.
But I won't hog the thread and I will stick with Nathans.[:D]

Chinese...For me, believe it or not was in Kauai, Hawaii. During a rainstorm on vacation there, my wife and I were forced into an old stone building from our bike ride. It ended up being some of the best Cantonese food I had ever had. The types and spices used in the Dim Sum were to die for. Only problem is a decade later---I can't remember what the hell the name of the place is.

Next Up: Burrito

Ahem...I believe the topic is burrito.

Meson Ole. Several of these restaurants on Long Island and they are not very fancy but the Mexican food is good. The burritos are especially good. I don't know what makes them so good but I suspect it's the cheese. Lots of it and somewhat sharp and flavorful.

Next Up: Swordfish or Shark (your choice)

You're as bad as I am. I just came back from a friend's bar-b-que and we were saying how bad we were with restaurant names. Best dim sum I had was in Hong Kong. I was working for this company that had it delivered to the office at lunch time. It was insane. You picked it off a cart, completely fresh. You ate so damned much you didn't need dinner. But you were in the best place in the world for the best Chinese so you ate dinner anyway. Best sushi was in Scottsdale, AZ. A real trendy part of town. I was again on business. By myself. The bill was around $150. I ate large that night. Best Thai I had was in Bangkok. I just got on a bus and took it to some neighborhood that looked interesting and stepped off. Went to some hole in the wall food joint full of locals. I couldn't read the menu so I just pointed to what other people were eating. Outrageous. Vietnamese? Same Thailand trip but this time we took a day excursion to where they filmed Bridge Over the River Kwai, close to the Vietnamese border. It was crazy. Eating rice out of coconuts and fish wrapped in banana leaves. God, I love food. I saw something in this thread about shark. I grill my own shark with olive oil, grey sea salt from France, fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh rosemary. Swiss chard and garlic. Yuengling beer. Done. Smoke a cigar.

A greasy shack called La Tapatia in Anaheim. I'm sure a bunch of places are called this. Anyway, friends and I would drive 45 minutes for their Tacos al pastor.

Next...STEAK! Okay, that's too broad a category. Make it one particular type of steak...RIBEYE!
