worst wedding experience (attended or your own)

I apologize if this was already discussed, but my husband and I were talking last night about all of the weddings we've been too and of course, I always bring this wedding up.....I went to a wedding about 7 years ago and let me tell you, was hands down the WORST wedding I've ever been to, and still is to this day.....

First off, music S.U.C.K.E.D. in the worst way...the guy couldn't DJ to save his life....the music was horrendous, the tempo was erratic, and he loved the sound of his own voice.....now, mind you, when I got married, the music was the #1 priority for my wedding. I think the music makes the wedding. Maybe about 10 people danced at this wedding....my husband and I spent what little time we were allowed to spend together, outside bitching and moaning about the wedding.

Second, now nothing against weddings outside the NY tri-state area, but what's up with providing alcholic beverages during the cocktail hour and then cutting everyone off for 2 hours, then serving drinks again during dinner? Plus, we had to pay for them! I'm not a big drinker, but I had a nice buzz going during the cocktail hour and it just kills it when you can't continue the buzz. Plus, I'm not very outgoing and the alcohol kind of helps me socialize in tense situations.....see next paragraph.

Third, this was my husband's friends from college. My husband was in the wedding party. The bride & groom did not have any of the significant others sitting with the bridal party. Where does the bride sit me? With all of her friends from high school....not that that would have been so bad, but they were all annoyed with me because one of their other high school friends was put at another table and couldn't sit with them because I was there! Like it was my fault! And, they wouldn't let the bridal party leave their tables during any of the food courses, so I didn't see my husband at all throughout most of the wedding.

Lastly, we had flown up to the wedding....the bride and groom did not provide transportation from the hotel to the church (which was 45 minutes away) or from the church to the reception (the reception was an hour and a half in the opposite direction from the church and the hotel) and then back to the hotel. Not that I expect transportation, but when you have people coming from out of town, you'd think they would at least make sure you have a way of getting to/from your wedding! Or at least let the out-of-towners know you're on your own in getting to/from the church & reception. We didn't know this until my husband was getting ready and called the groom to ask when the limo was picking them up....the groom said "no limo, just ask one of the groomsmen to drive you." I had to call up one of the groomsmen's girlfriend's mom and ask if I could hitch a ride with them....they were so put-off by my request, it was like I had asked them to light themselves on fire! I should have known from that ride that I should have just stayed at the hotel and skipped the wedding altogether.

The next morning we went to breakfast with the bride & groom and they were going on and on about how great their wedding was. I did the polite thing and kept my mouth shut, but man, I really wanted to let loose and say "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!"

So, I'd like to hear your stories.....I'm sure with this group, there are going to be some doozies!!

[?] That's just STRANGE. Wow, it sounds like you had a horrendous wedding experience there and were dealing with terribly rude and immature people. The planning was at best, third rate.

I went to a wedding one balmy night in the middle of last summer where the catering hall had no air conditioning, the bride and groom didn't show up for four hours, no alcohol was served and the cocktail (four) hour(s) consisted of a bowl of chicken wings. The whole thing was incredibly unorganized. No one had a ride. The bride and groom's parents, the wedding party, the DJ.....what a mess. I wound up playing chauffeur just so I could get the evening over and done with and I could go home. Oh my God, and the drama when the best man went straight to the airport after the ceremony so he could fly down south to see his girlfriend. Worst part of the night? Seeing all the young kids endure all this nonsense all hours of the night. They were miserable. I couldn't wait to leave.

oh man, that sounds like a horrible experience.
I got nothing.

We had a barefoot-in-the-park wedding, unity incense, no music, stuff like that. In retrospect, probably some of the older family members thought it was weird and too informal, but they know me, and were not surprised. It's really about what YOU (and your spouse) want. No way could I be worrying about pleasing everyone, as long as no major slip-ups occurred. They're all there to celebrate with us, not attend to their own needs. I dunno. I guess I'm not picky enough to know anything about "proper" wedding planning. It was a big party, as far as we were concerned--friends, food, alcohol, great weather (my husband had brewed plenty of kegs, too!)

OK, at least I had air conditioning. [:p] I don't know what I would have done if I couldn't have anything to eat or drink for those four hours...you're a good man Marv for driving those people home.

I was very specific when I was looking for a DJ....I didn't want anyone who was 'cheezy'...my DJ was big into NW music and he was awesome! I got married 6 years ago and I still have people that were at my wedding tell me how awesome he was. In fact, 4 other couples used our DJ when they got married.

The girl I went with said it was the worst but I thought it was pretty cool. The bride got drunk and kept flashing everyone at the reception. She fell down while dancing and we discovered that she wasn't wearing panties. Once she found out that we all saw her hoo haa she went around showing everyone. I guess she didn't want to leave anyone out.

<p align="justify">Just for our own amusement, what would a wedding music list look like? Pretend you're in charge of the music at your wedding: what songs would be playing in the background that would drive other people insane?[}:)]

several years ago, we went to a wedding in Michegan. The only saving grace ws that we went with another couple so we had someone to socialize with. Both our husbands were in the wedding party, but it was also completely unorganized. The bride & her parents and all her friends were completely rude & it was like pulling teeth to get them to even say hello to us. The cockatil hour seemed to last forever, in reality it was probably about 2 hours. but our husbands were taking pictures with the bridal party & we were stuck in a gymnasium with no music, no drinks whatsoever & no food. We actually tried to beg for a glass of water, which we couldn't even get. Finally the bridal party gets there, and still no music. No alcohol to help relieve the past 2 hours & the food was terrible. we couldn't wait to leave. The worst: the next day we missed our flight out & had to sit in the airport for several hours

My husband knocked over my sisters wedding cake at her wedding.
She was not happy.

At least he didn't knock over your sister! It is all in the way you look at it. Is the half empty or half full. Did I mention I am wasted on Vicoden right now?
