Just days past the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's devastating arrival in New Orleans, the city is now preparing for a virtual replay. Hurricane Gustav, just days ago predicted to max out at a Category 3 status, is already a Category 4 hurricane. It is projected to reach Category 5 status, just like Katrina, and to make landfall Monday evening or Tuesday morning. It's most likely path takes it through New Orleans.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I'm just preparing to brace myself for the amateur hour that'll follow as the pitiful response to this disaster if we're talking virtual replays.

edit: Why anyone would want to live in a bowl that sits below sea level right on the coast is just beyond me. It seems crazy to have gone back after Katrina.

We can hope that history does not, indeed, repeat itself, both in the actual event and in the actions that follow.

I've become aquainted with one of the emigrees from N'Orleans, and he has no desire to move back there. He thinks only a fool would go back after all that happened.

I totally agree. Lots of culture and history, and unique nightlife. And I ate like a king when I was there. GREAT restaurants.

The formaldehyde FEMA trailers should be in place, ready for any disaster. Aren't they still baking in the sun, since no one got to use them after Katrina?

It appears that even the Rethuglican Convention may have to brace itself. They are also worried about Gustav:

Ironically ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition show on tonight is rebuilding a church and a home in New Orleans. I know it was filmed months ago but it's eerily strange that it airs on the eve of Gustav.
