Good news for huge Duran Duran fanatics like me! [:D] Duran Duran will be releasing a DVD from the Eagle Rock Entertainment classic album series. It will feature the band and their making of the album "Rio." Whoohooo!

It'll be released November 4th and here's a preview of it.

I just watched this last night and I have mixed feelings about it. I guess mainly because it left me wanting more! That's even after watching all the bonus material.

I was hoping they would go into the creation of the songs in a lot more detail. Learning that Hungry Like the Wolf was basically written in half an hour was just not satisfying! They didn't even mention Last Chance on the Stairway or Lonely in Your Nightmare, and the discussion of Hold Back the Rain was minimal. I've heard they don't like My Own Way but there was no discussion of that, or of the vastly different US rock version v. the European disco version. And where the hell was Andy? I'd also like to know if any material was left off the album.

At the same time, it really brought me back to a happy time and place in my life. I blame my thinning hair on all the product I used trying to look like Duran. I was in highschool when I first heard the album and it was the most incredible thing I'd ever heard at the time. Every 6 months or so I pull it out and it still sounds as exciting to me today as it did then.

I'd also like to learn more about Seven and the Ragged Tiger because it is so different and even weird compared to Rio. What happened between albums to result in such a bizarre record and all the artsy weird lyrics? The Arcadia album would have seemed like a more appropriate 3rd album than Seven. Just my opinion.

I'll stop rambling before anyone accuses me of being a die hard Duranee.

Now if they'd just release the original album version of Rio on CD ...

I'd rather they release the Kershenbaum remixed side one on CD. Mind you, I think the only track I miss is Lonely in Your Nightmare. I believe all the other tracks are pretty much on CD, except for Hold Back the Rain, which is just an edit of the 12" version, so I'm fine with the 12" version. Maybe Rio is missing too, but I prefer the original album version over the Kershenbaum version.

Damn it, now you've made me pull out my vinyl and I have an incredible urge to transfer it to have the Kershenbaum version in mp3, too.
