Sandy West (July 10, 1959), was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and drummer. She was hailed by fans and critics alike to be one of the most groundbreaking drummers in rock and roll history. She was the first female drummer to garner widespread popularity in the rock music arena and one of the founding members of The Runaways, a groundbreaking teenage all-girl band who performed proto-punk and Rock and Roll in the 1970s.In 2005, Sandy was diagnosed with lung cancer, which later progressed to a brain tumor, and she died on Oct. 21, 2006 at the age of 47

When I found out that Sandy had died of cancer, I decided to change the topic from just about the band itself, and more of a memoriam for Sandy. I recently heard "Cherry Bomb" on 103.9 in Bartlesville, OK. I was reading about the band here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Runaways when I made the discovery.
Also in the band were Lita Ford and Joan Jett; plus Micki Steele, who later joined the Bangles.(I had no idea beforehand they were in the band)
Im still embedding the "Cherry Bomb" video as a tribute to Sandy, because its my favorite song
