Economic Outlook

Today (Thurs) my current employer's share price closed under $3. Two months ago, it was $21. And my company is not in the financial, real-estate or auto-making industries. (We're in hotels & leisure travel).

I think as each week passes, it's shaping up to be the ugliest economic landscape of our generation. It may be a bit early to clearly see the effects of this destruction of wealth, but have to I ask: Does anyone else agree?

In my economic opinion, I forsee:

I live in NY under the jackboot of Mayor Bloomberg so the future is not very bright. He broke the law and is now running for a third term and the people voted against it. He says he knows whats good for us more than we do. Higher taxes and less service.

It's awfully damn bleak from my perspective. There isn't anything to suggest it's going to get better anytime soon.

There wasn't anything to suggest that gas was gonna go from $4.49 to $1.89 either. No doubt it looks bleak, but difficult to see, always in motion is the future.

money comes and it goes. its going right now ...it'll be back in two years. these cycles will start to speed up....

I think that the recession will be mild and, for the most part, the worst is known if not exactly over. Nonetheless, the belt will have to remain really tight to get through this.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I work with some retail partners of my company and I have to say things are gonna be rough but I don't think it'll last more than 2-3 years. I think the way retailers do business will change in respect to promotions and their overall profit margins will shrink. Right now I think the consumer is playing chicken the retailers to see who will move first, consumers spending or the retailers cutting prices. I think the consumers will win because the sheer number of competitors in retail for any product. The fact is they have to move these goods because there is much more in the gun. In the long term I think consumers will have to react when they see something they want or risk not getting it because retailers will have cut receipts to levels not seen in years and some of the competition will have gone under.

Always remember you are unique....just like everyone else.
