Please for the love of anything that is remotely funny or entertaining put this fucked up piece of shit show to bed. I tuned in for the 30 minutes tonight, waiting for Fleet Foxes to come on. IT SUCKED DONKEY DICK!!! I was literally squirming, embarrassed for the cast, getting angrier and angrier that anything so bad could be on TV. Then Fleet Foxes come on, who, whether you like them or not, have an incredibly rich sound. On Letterman last year they sounded amazing. On SNL, somehow they managed bleed every vestige of that richness away with their typical HORSESHIT sound setup. What the fuck is wrong with these people?! Somebody please please please put a fork in them. Fucking DONE! [:(!][:(!][:(!]

I actually watched a little last night and shut it off after a few minutes. Agreed Blir, it really sucks.

We can't watch SNL anymore. Too painful. Makes me squirm. During the election, their political skits were gold. But anything else ? Yech ![xx(]

The show went through a period like this about 15-20 years ago and all of a sudden, funnier cast members were there. David Spade, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon and Mike Myers (I am sure I am missing some). Were the writers that awful or were the previous cast members unable to pull off what was written for them? Hard to say. Probably a little of both.
Maybe a resurgence will come. New talent. New writers.
As for now, I have to agree with Blir. It's awful.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I've been a fan of SNL since the beginning, and last night's show was the worst I have ever seen.

I have been a huge fan of SNL for as long as I can remember. Last night's show was bad. I could have guessed, they had Lisa Bonet hosting and the Doobie Brothers as the musical guest. The only thing that could have livened it up (and what I was half expecting) was Will Ferrell to pop onstage with his cowbell.


The show has it's funny moments still, just like the old days. It's no better nor any worse now.

People really watch SNL? I tuned out years ago.

oh ---it's sooooo awful.. I tuned in for one skit, and couldnt make it through....

MadTV (R.I.P.) was actually usually more funny than SNL

This is the last skit I enjoyed cause "I jizz in my pants"...[:p]

I have the first four seasons of SNL on DVD and even though the tone of the show takes getting used to (the 70's seems like another planet at times and I lived through it!l) it beats the hell out of the current SNL. If they release complete seasons right through to the 80's I might buy them until they reach the Dana Carvey years. As much as I love Phil Hartman I have a good compilation of his best stuff and I don't have the same fondness for the late 80's SNL and basically stopped watching in the 90's. From what I've seen of the current SNL it seems to be this kind of "Dane Cook style" of comedy that I simply don't get and find painfully unfunny.
In truth the show should have stopped in 1980 when the last of the original cast left. Imagine if they would have replaced the cast of Monty Python?
The revelation of those early SNL episodes is Chevy Chase who steals every show with his "I don't give a crap about anything" attitude. It's no wonder he became a mega star instantly.

I TiVo-ed Saturday's performance, and I have the season pass set so I can catch the bands I probally wouldn't otherwise see... Sometimes the show is good, other times not, many of the skits go on for too long because after the first minute or 2 the material has run out.

After I watch this last Sat. performance, I'll put my 2 cents in...[:p]

Missed that one and glad I did from the sound of it. The only laugh-out-loud moments left on SNL are all concentrated in the Weekend Update and usually delivered by Seth Meyers who doesn't even perform in sketches anymore. Go figure! As a relatively faithful SNL-viewer, the last couple years have been pretty damn atrocious and they are definitely getting worse. I put the blame on the writers. There are cast members I could do without (the new ones are nothing to get excited about), but Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader have at least got the talent. Kristen Wiig -- while not devoid of some kind of talent -- just tends to annoy the hell out of me with her predictably eccentric middle aged woman or psychotic chick caricatures. Poor Daryl Hammond needs to just hang it up -- he hasn't been given anything worthwhile in a long time.
