Also--I Tunes library transferred onto to new pc--but now--only on some songs--the title may show as "Track 4", etc, instead of it's name. I edit the name-it appears correct--I click on it--it goes back to "Track 4". Any clues out there?

You might try this. I found this in iTunes help. It doesn't look as if it will hurt to try:
If a song's title and information don't appear correctly, the file was probably created using a program that stores information in a different way from iTunes. You may be able to resolve the problem by reversing the Unicode characters in the song tags.
To reverse the Unicode characters:
Right-click a song and choose Convert ID3 Tags.
Click Reverse Unicode.
To change the information back to what you had before, choose Reverse Unicode again.

Hell--I don't understand it but I'll try it. I just know on my old PC I did not have this issue--same songs from the same sources.

Randy, if you figure this out let us know what the problem was. I hate unsolved mysteries. It almost sounds like the files are write-protected. I didn't think that was possible in i-tunes.

Do these particular songs reside within the iTunes folder itself, or are they kept in a different location altogether?
