If you don't know already, we are. Doomberg our much hated mayor made his new budget cuts clear today. Lay off 23000 city workers (I am one). All of a sudden I hear more people talking about who is out of work. NY is screwed!

sorry to hear that Philly --- I heard on Stern that there seems to be a lot less hustle and bustle in NYC lately ---hope things get better for you.

Oh there will be an election. For those who did not hear, Bloomberg also bullied in a vote that will let him run for another term. All without letting the people vote on it. The short version is that they had 1 meeting that the public could see. They had HEAVY security. Good reason, the people went nuts! There were death threats and all. Bloomy is known to bully and he did. Some of the council members that backed him ran out of the meeting crying! He will run again even though some members tried to block his actions by taking it to court. He is really hated now but he will win because most people don't vote and have already given up. I won't give details but I have gotten involved with NY politics for the last few years and I am totally sick over it. I saw for myself the greed and corruption most people just hear about. I am so sick of this crap. This city is getting ready to blow up and it won't be pretty. Thanks for your well wishes guys, I will get by.

That blows, unfortunately it is becoming an all to common occurance lately. Here's hoping you land on your feet and rebound quickly.

I can always go back to a life of crime, thats what many people are doing now. I can be a super villain! Squirrel man!

This is just how a revolution starts too. I would run in a second but I already found out that unless you have tons of money to buy yourself friends, you will never get in.

This is also how great music revolutions begin. Double digit unemployment among the U.K. youth spawned a musical revolution in 1976. Let's hope at least something good comes out of this global recession. Music could sure use some inspiration.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Even agencies that self-fund through fees are either laying off, freezing positions, or eliminating vacancies and dumping more work onto others. The part that sux is that we have something 7 pregnancy-related leaves as well - and their workload has also been dumped on us[}:)]

That sucks, philly. It sounds pretty crappy, what is swirling around NYC's politics. But we are not hearing about this on the evening news.

Oy! Within the past 2 months, 3 different friends of mine who live there have told me that they've been laid off. 2 in the Science Field, one in Computers. Sounds like CA is being hit hard.

I don't follow NYC politics too closely (beyond mayor), but the recent term limit fiasco revealed a number of council members self-serving sycophants jockeying for power.

Hey Bri, you got it right. That term limit vote was crazy and showed a few peoples true colors.
