Since Obama's election the Dow Jones is down about 23%. Better hope his spending plan starts stimulating something soon. Can't wait for that $13 a week to start rolling in.[:)]

Hey, he was in Canada today. He was about 400 miles from my front door, and my property values STILL went up 20%.

I guess the housing bubble (following the internet bubble) is still going strong in Canada. If trends continue to duplicate ours, get ready for the proposed government bail-out bubble.

I was being sarcastic. Housing prices here are down about 10-15% locally.

People up here have perma-boner over this guy. It's beyond stupid. Hunderds got on buses to go to Ottawa hoping to get a glimpse of him.

Someone needs to get close to him at one of his public appearances and hand him a fish to see how many people he can feed.

Oh, and don't forget, the $13 is reduced to $8 come January 1. Wonder what Michelle Obama will say about her husband's $416 tax cut when she made fun of Bush's $600 tax refund, hmm?

I got to watch Obama field questions during the press conference here yesterday. I have to say I was less than impressed. He seemed to be searching for words, and while he did present a relaxed demeanor, he was far from the confident, self assured savior that I was told he was. Quite ordinary actually.

By comparison, our guy Harper, who is a stuffed shirt at the best of times sounded more confident and aware of the material he was discussing.

Somebody please tell me this adoration for Obama isn't just an anti-Bush reflex.

Referring to Obama as 'the messiah' is strait from the wing-nut echo chamber...I'm pretty sure Rush, Hannity or one of their ilk coined the phrase and their loyal followers have ran with it.

I'm just glad he sent more troops to Afghanistan. All that extremist / terrorist / Taliban / Bin Laden gutter filth needs to be addressed adequately.

If anyone else has any silver-bullet solutions for the economy, I'm sure the Obama administration would welcome your advice. So far, the opposition plan has been to offer more tax cuts or fiddle while Rome burns.

To some, the ideological purity of letting this fire burn itself out naturally is more politically useful than mitigating the damage and suffering. Mid-term elections will be here before you know it, and you can bet there will be many GOP candidates who hope to capitalize on a depression-era economy.

Yes on both counts. When interest rates are already near zero, there aren't many good options for rescuing a post-bubble economy. The best the govt can do is try to prop things up so that the downturn doesn't become a death spiral.

I admit to experiencing some schadenfreude as the economy started to tank. But then I also don't think it's wholly unfair that the party that brought tax cuts for the rich, pork-laden budgets and a trillion dollar war would be held to account for their policies at the ballot box.

Now that we've bankrupted our kids' futures all we have is fiscal policy. All I can do is hope for the best. No schadenfreude here.
