New Religion?
Last night I attended my son's primary/elementary school concert. It was quite a production for kids so young, with a professional singer and band accompanying them though 8 songs - all with a green/environmental/save the earth/ecological theme.
Honestly, I've never been to a school concert where the kids were so enthusiastic, belting out the tunes and groovin' to the beat. At a superficial level, it was quite entertaining.
The whole point of the thing is to educate the kids about these issues through something fun - singing and dancing. I get it...and I can't argue with it...but at the same time I was feeling creeped out. It was almost cult-like at times, especially when the 6th graders were going on about the negative ecological footprint.
I had this awful feeling last night that if you dared question the science behind any of the "green" assertions in the songs, you'd be burned at the stake for your heresy. It is like a new religion.
