Health Care: Time to Kill Grandpa

Yesterday Pat Buchanan distorted a provision in the House Healthcare Reform Bill (which can be <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/07/the_house_releases_its_health-.html" target="_new">downloaded from this page</a>) to scare senior citizens and aging baby boomers:

Excerpted from '<a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=105909" target="_new2">Time for Grandpa to Go</a>'
"...is not the logical purpose of paying doctors for house calls to the terminally ill, whose medical costs are killing Medicare, to suggest a pleasant and early exit from a pain-filled and costly life?"

Buchanan's message is preposterous and dishonest, and his promoting this type of propaganda is not simply a case of being misinformed. Pat is part of a network of right-wing pundits and lobbyists who are spreading deliberate lies about healthcare. Over the past few weeks there has been a surge of these lies and distortions, many of which can be debunked with IQ alone.

I receive a lot of these messages in my In-box (e.g., <a href="http://fredthompsonshow.com/premiumstream?dispid=320&headerDest=L3BnL2pzcC9tZWRpYS9mbGFzaHdlbGNvbWUuanNwP3BpZD03MzUxJnBsYXlsaXN0PXRydWUmY2hhcnR0eXBlPWNoYXJ0JmNoYXJ0SUQ9MzIwJnBsYXlsaXN0U2l6ZT01" target="_new8">here</a>, <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=aLzfDxfbwhzs" target="_new7">here</a>, <a href="http://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2009/07/27/translating_obamacare_into_plain_english_97328.html" target="_new9">here</a> or <a href="http://www.breitbart.tv/uncovered-video-obama-explains-how-his-health-care-plan-will-eliminate-private-insurance/" target="_new8">here</a>), thanks to all of my Wall Street employed neighbors. If you have any similar claims you'd like me to review, please post the links or text here.

Here are some links which are useful to help sift through the propaganda:

It would be awesome if he and other conservatives were right about the healthcare reform bill. Government encouraged euthanasia? Free abortions? Hell yeah ... let's do this. If only it were true it would almost be enough to get me to like Obama.

A young boy sees his father going to the river with a large basket. He asks his father, "What is in the basket?"

"It is grandfather," the father replies.

The boy is upset, so the father explains,"Grandfather is old, he cannot work. He costs more than he is worth to feed. Also, grandfather has fallen ill and this will prevent his suffering."

The son falls silent. As the father heads down the road, the son warns, "Remember to bring back the basket-- we will need to use it for you some day."

Seriously, I think we should just off everyone on their 65th birthday. Obviously we'd have to make exceptions for people who are already alive (literally a "grandfather clause") but I don't think it would be so bad if you were born knowing you had 65 years. It could be arranged that a fully government funded retirement starts at 55 or something, then bang ... you're gone at 65. Think of the savings.

In the campy sci-fi flick Logan's Run, I think they capped the maximum legal age at 30.

Yeah, I know ... but 30 is way too young. It would never fly. [:D]

Besides, it would be much easier to catch a 65 yr. old would-be escapee than a 30 yr. old.

Maybe the government can make exceptions to the "grandfather clause" for those already alive but would like to retire at 55.
Any volunteers ? Motors ? [:o)]

Let's see ... work 9 more years, retire at 55 and then have 10 years of government funded retirement? And all I have to do is die at 65? Hell yeah ... I'm in.

Motors, all you'd need is a prescription for medicinal marijuana and you'd be golden [:D]

With all the time I'd have, I would probably just grow my own.
