The killing moon...will come too soon...Friday actually..Nasa plans to bomb the south pole of the moon to search for water particles..This may sound like a funny joke but this is NOT a joke..Is this another small step or disaster? [B)]

In the movie The time machine, man destroys the moon by accident and starts the end of the world as we know it. Makes you think what could happen.

I wonder if we'll be able to see the six mile high plume of debris from Earth.

Philly, I saw that movie and that scene in particular frightened me...I have one word to best describe this....L U N A C Y.

It will happen in the morning so we won't be able to see it here in the east coast with the naked eye.

This could really piss off the aliens who have bases on the far side of the moon.

Is it not a delicate balance the lunar tides??? Corals and other coastal sea creature depend on the tides. One tiny deviation would off set this delicate balance..Is that what technology does to us?? When did man lose that delicate balance with nature?? Why must he bomb e v e r y t h i n g now even the moon isn't safe...What's next the SUN?!

Actually since the tides are due to the gravitational pull from the moon, the bombs are not going to affect that. Think of the millions of bombs that have hit earth (not that any of them are a good thing) but nothing changed the earth-moon relationship. Thousands of meteors have struck the moon with much greater force than any bombs will, yet the tides continue. The gravitational relationships of the sun, the planets, their moons and other heavenly bodies has gone on for eons and will likely continue to do so.

I am not supporting bombing the moon, I actually have not read enough to understand what they hope to accomplish. I just believe that with the worlds leading astrophysicists and astronomers and planetary geologists, they know that what they plan to do is not going to amount to much more than a flea bite to the lunar surface.

This being said, I still think IF there are aliens among us, or observing us, as in the first contact scenario, they must see humans as extremely savage and primitive, a world with such beauty and awe that we lack the responsibility to be stewards over such a world. I would think aliens would see us as a race capable of great things overshadowed by a need to destroy. For all our technology and advances, humans are more savage than ever. For a race to conceive of travel lights years to other star systems, they would have likely overcome the notion of countries and collectively acknowledge themselves as a race sharing a world.

The scene from The Time Machine was frightening. Everyone in the streets running for shelters....then you look up! The moon cracked into pieces. Very creepy.

I only hope that Nasa coordinated the moon bombings to the exact moment Dave Gilmour rips on that solo from "Money".

We have all this excess money lying around and they thought, hey, lets waste $79 million to shoot a rocket at the moon... we can turn the moon into a big jail... Al Qaeda thinks Guantanamo Bay is tough! Wait till they see the moon with limited oxygen... it'll make water boarding look like water boarding.

We can move our trash up there too...a giant landfill in the Sea of Tranquility... hey, no bad smells and no flies!

Also, they are bringing down the value... first they take it out of it's special "moon packaging" and now they are hitting it with a rocket? ...no other species is going to pay anything like the value of what the moon was worth in a pre 10/9 world.
