Who are your heroes?

Seriously. Can you name any public figures whom you admire or consider a hero? By hero, I mean someone whose life work has shown him or herself to be a true artist/innovator, or a visionary?

This exercise probably requires some thought, but off the cuff, I can list a few:

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Henson" target="_new">Jim Henson</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Rogers" target="_new1">Fred Rogers</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Serling" target="_new2">Rod Serling</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Adams" target="_new3">Douglas Adams</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla" target="_new4">Nikola Tesla</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckminster_Fuller" target="_new5">Buckminster Fuller</a>
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing" target="_new6">Alan Turing</a>

Of course, this is a work in progress. I'd be interested to hear who some of your heroes are. I think heroes are inspirational, and hopefully your list of heroes will help me grow my list.

Off the top of my head:
Orson Welles
Brian Wilson
Mel Blanc (hell, all the folks at Termite Terrace)
Peter Cook
Joe Namath

I'd add Rod Serling to my list (with honorable mentions to Twilight Zone scribes Richard Matheson and Charles Beaumont).

Motors-- Thanks. I fixed the typo.
If your heroes were all on a bus, would you have Chad sit at the back? [:D]
