Happy Elvis Day!

Tomorrow January 8th marks what would have been the 75th birthday of Elvis Presley. People can argue over Christmas, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, etc. but as Lester Bangs once wrote..."We'll never agree on anything like we did on Elvis."

So Happy Elvis Day to you all. Even to all you Elvis haters who are just guilty of shallow contrariness. [;)]

I'm not Catholic but Carl Perkins once said that Elvis, in his 50's heyday, could simply point at a woman and she'd have an orgasm. That sure as hell sounds like a miracle to me. I think sainthood is in order. [:D]

Elvis is the shit.

Amazing to me that my dad is only 6 years older than Elvis but is of a completely different generation. He could never get into Rock and still listens to the old school crooners like Frankie Lane, Sinatra, etc.

I've never really had much of an appreciation for the man's music but I like him nonetheless. He wore black and pissed people off.

Sidenote: We have an Elvis in my town. Not an impersonator, but a freak who's convinced he actually is Elvis and has even gone so far as to have his name changed to Elvis Aaron Presley. You'd think someone as obsessed as this guy would know that the real Elvis spelled his middle name with just one A but apparently not.

At least being Elvis is safe ...

Prior to his incarnation as Elvis, he was convinced he was a karate expert and used to go around challenging people ... with predictable results. After he got tired of getting the shit kicked out of him, he decided he was a private investigator and started following people around and taking notes and sometimes pictures. This also resulted in him regularly getting the shit kicked out of him. So he became Elvis.

I love my town.

LOL We have the same sort of situation in my town. What is it about these guys who couldn't possibly ever get laid in a million years who think they're Elvis? Unless you've got a young Ann-Margret in a black leotard following you around....um....you ain't Elvis, son. [:D]
