Leno/Conan feud

Let me see if I've got this straight. NBC wanted Conan at 11:30 to attract younger audiences since the audience for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno is mostly middle-aged to elderly (old people love Jay Leno for some reason). NBC convinces Jay Leno to retire in 5 years despite Leno really not wanting to go. The day arrives and Leno starts making noise about continuing his late night stint elsewhere. NBC panics and offers him a 10pm slot. Conan takes over 11:30 but the younger audience never arrives and old folks think Conan looks like Dennis The Menace or some shit and they migrate to Letterman (another old bastard). They also don't want to watch Jay at 10 because it confuses them. NBC freaks and now Jay gets his 11:30 slot back and Conan is screwed right now (although he'll make so much money in the future it'll make his head spin).
Who's at fault IMO?
#1 Jay Leno. he should've put his foot down, said he wasn't ready to retire and left for another network 5 years ago.
#2 NBC. Should've been happy to have that elderly audience at 11:30. Younger people have moved on to other forms of entertainment.

Yeah, okay, it's not Conan's fault at all for driving half The Tonight Show audience away or for not being content to be at 12:35am, where NBC was happy with him (even though the far better Craig Ferguson had started beating him).

Looks like NBC is gonna give Conan $30 million to walk away from his contract.

<p align="justify">I kinda liked the way it was arranged, so I could watch Conan and then Ferguson, thus avoiding both leno AND letterman[}:)]

It's not really. It's NBC's. Conan was never going to bring a young audience to the Tonight Show because there is no young audience for that show and the one that IS there hates Conan and stays away. That research was floated around before he started and foolishly NBC went for it anyway and got burned. If you want to say it's Conan's fault for lusting after the Tonight Show where he was doomed to fail then he should take part of the blame, I guess.
Craig Ferguson tests really well with older demos and he would have been my choice for 11:30 if I ran NBC, but he might have a deal with Letterman.

I suppose I have no real say in this since I haven't watched TV in about 9 years, but I saw today that Leno did better in the ratings than both Letterman and Conan.
My immediate response was "wtf?" I never thought Leno was funny, at all. The only show on worse than his was Craig Kilborn who is thankfully long gone. I think Leno is a douche for basically forcing Conan out, from what I read today he's been a real primadonna in the past with NBC and they woulda been smart to just tell him where to stick it.

Craig Ferguson is the only "laugh out loud" show in this genre IMO. I'd take him over all the others.

The Chevy Chase show should've been given a better chance.

Leno took a good shot a Letterman the other night.
Tonight, during his monologue, Jay Leno said, "Letterman has been hammering me every night. Going after me… hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won’t look you in the eye…"

I agree. Ferguson blows these guys out of the water. If Letterman steps down in a few years and Craig gets the 11:30 slot, I think he's going to be a monster. Ferguson can just riff like no one else.

Kudos to Kimmel for having Guillermo, the best hapless, unassuming, oblivious straight man since Letterman's Larry "Bud" Melman.
